This Guide will help you configure your RT-314
Router to work with Telstra Cable. You need version
3.24 firmware for this to work.
A few things you need to know to get around in
the dos setup:
-Use arrow keys to move around.
-Space to change options (it will say at the bottom
when you can)
-You must go to the bottom part of the window
and press enter so it accepts changes

this is in the 3rd step - under domain put sa.bigpond.net.au
(or if you use vic or something eles use that)

Unpack, plug in, so on and so on your router

Go to run in start menu and type (with out the
")
"telnet" then press enter (ms-dos should
open)
"open" then press enter
"192.168.0.1" then press enter (if you
have change the IP to enter the router use that)
"router password" (default is 1234)
then press enter
now you should be on a menu that looks like this.

type 1 then press enter
under system leave it blank or put in a name it
don't matter
under domain put sa.bigpond.net.au (or if you
use vic or something eles use that)
under dynamic DNS have NO (use space bar to get
NO)
this is what you should have

go to this part and press enter

you should b back on the main menu

type 2 then press enter
under assigned by use your space bar to change
it to IP address attached on LAN if it is not
already that.
Under IP put 192.168.100.10 (this is the IP that
computers on the network get)
this is what you should have

go to this part and press enter

you should b back on the main menu
5.

type 3 then press enter
type 1 then press enter
make it so there is nothing in any of them if
not already blank and put a 2 next to Protocal
filters
this is what you should have

go to this part and press enter

type 2 then press enter
under Client IP Pool Starting Address put 192.168.100.10
(this is the IP the server computer will have.
What ever computer urns on first will get this
IP and will b the computer that connects to the
Internet)
under Size of Client IP Pool put 20 (this can
be anything, it is how many people
can b on the router at one time.)
Under Primary DNS Server put 61.9.224.13 (that
is Telstras Primary DNS Server)
under Secondary DNS Server put 61.9.224.16 (that
is Telstras Secondary DNS Server)
under IP Address put 192.168.100.1 (this is the
new ip to get into the router, it can not be 192.168.0.1
as that is the ip of them modem, if they are the
same the connection will drop out)
under IP Subnet Mask put 255.255.255.0
under RIP Direction use spacebar to get Both
under Version use spacebar to get RIP-1
under Multicast use spacebar to get None
this is what you should have

go to this part and press enter

then press ESC
you should b back on the main menu

type 4 then press enter
under ISP's Name put Telstra
under Encapsulation use spacebar to get Ethernet
under Service Type use spacebar to get Standard
the following will do it's self
My Login= N/A
My Password= N/A
Login Server IP= N/A
under IP Address Assignment use spacebar to get
Dynamic
the following will do it's self
IP Address= N/A
IP Subnet Mask= N/A
Gateway IP Address= N/A
under Single User Account use spacebar to get

go to this part and press enter

you should b back on the main menu

type 15 then press enter
on the second row (number 2) under port put 5050
(this helps heartbeat being detected) press enter
on the second row (number 2) under IP address
put 192.168.100.10 press enter

now you need to add another DNS servers into windows.
To do this do the following.
For Windows 2000
--
right click My Network Places and press properties
right click Local Area Connection (or if u have
rename it) and press properties
select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the list
like I have in the pic and press Properties.

Put in the DNS servers like I have in the pic
(they need 2 b in router and in windows for it
to work)

press advanced and go to the DNS tab and press
add
insert this IP 24.192.1.30 and press OK.
if you don't that it should show up like in the
pic.

For Windows 98

To connect to the Internet now, you need BPA Login
(get it from http://bpalogin.sourceforge.net/)
install it and start it up.
Press config and put in your username, password
and under local port put 5050 and under default
domain put sa.bigpond.net.au
press OK. and press connect.
Should look like this but with your user and password
in.

if it does not connect restart your computer and
try again.
If it still does not connect do this.
Start MS-DOS and type ipconfig and press enter.
If it looks something like this it should all
b working and you can connect.

If you don't have these. Unplug all computers,
turn router off. Plug in the computer you want
to use to connect with and turn router on. Wait
for about 5 mins while things talk. Do ipconfig
again the router should give you this information
and it should work.
