Althasar

It is the far future. Earth has become overcrowded, and it cannot find enough livable planets and materials fast enough to support its growing population. The only chance of escape to a better and new life for people is if a wormhole opens.

The wormholes began occuring in the year 3000. When the first wormhole opened, a probe was sent through to find if where it opened on the other side was livable. Contact was lost because the planed the hole opened to was far out of range, and the portal soon closed. However, more opened and a probe was sent through each one to try and establish contact.

Years passed, and eventually the planet the first probe was ever sent to was found. The others soon followed and a pattern emerged: all probes were found on planets viable for human habitation, therefore the wormholes must open only to livable planets. Some didn't make it and sacrificed themselves on the journey to help the others. The new world was beautiful and had places for all of them; mountains for the dragons, fields for unicorns, woods for the fey, seas for mermaids, hills for hobbits, and so on.

However, it was foretold that the planet they call Althasar would one day be discovered, and its fate would hang in the balance. The newest wormhole from Earth opened onto a mainly unexplored continent, and the old enemies of the creatures of magic have arrived...
