First Mr. Garfield was born in a little Italian restaurant owned by Mama Leoni in 1978. At time of birth he weighed 5pds and 6 ounces and Mama Leoni was so busy running her restaurant that she could not afford to take care of a very large cat too. So she sold him to the pet shop, where a skinny a nerdy looking cartoonist names Jon Arbuckle purchased him.
