Pave runway blast pads on runway 2-20 and 8-26
Due to the large amount of business jets and large twin-engine aircraft that use Watsonville Municipal Airport, significant erosion has been caused on both ends of the runway. The erosion is primarily caused by the blast from the propellers and jets. A blast pad that is 150 feet wide and 200 feet long at each end of the four runways is part of this plan. It will be paved and provide the necessary protection against the elements listed above. It will be paved strong enough so that if the aircraft touch down or roll off of it, it will not cause damage. The formula for this pavement includes 6 inches of aggregate sub-base, 8 inches of aggregate base course, and 3 inches of bituminous surface course. This project is actually split into two parts (9A and 9B).
