He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Gallien; four sons, Leonard, Troy, Damon, and James Gallien, Jr.; two daughters, Rachel and Ashley Gallien; his mother, Bertha Gallien; five brothers, Wilton, Joseph, Kervin, Daryl, and Leroy Gallien; four sisters, Wanda and Carolyn Angelle, Joyce Andrus, and Carol Lynn Gallien; his mother-in-law, Veronica Simon; his brothers and sisters-in-law; his nieces and nephews; his cousins; a granddaughter; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Gallien; three brothers, Willie, Leonard, and Claude Gallien, Jr.; his maternal grandmother, Anna Sias; an uncle, Sentry Sias; a nephew, Tony Simon; his father-in-law, Ralph Simon; and a best friend, Roy Simon. HAMMOND, LOUISIANA: Thomas G. Garon, 65, died April 28, 2008 at his home. He was born June 14, 1942 to Leon J. Garon and Alice George Garon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by a brother, Newman G. Garon of Springfield; and a sister, Joan Garon Smith of Hammond. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jerry E. Garon. Interment was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond under the direction of Geiser Funeral Home.

GASPARD, Rev. Francis
BUNKIE, LOUISIANA: Brother Francis (Earl) Gaspard, 64, died June 8, 2003. He was born September 19, 1938. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a registered nurse. He was ordained in the Brothers of the Holy Eucharist in 1973 and served as Pastoral Minister at St. Anthony's Catholic Church for twenty years. Survivors include two sisters, Lessoe Jarrell of Centerpoint and Enola Humphries of Hessmer; two brothers, Alton Paul Gaspard of Crystal River, Florida and Valley Gaspard, Jr. of Hessmer; 9 nieces; 11 nephews; and the Brothers of the Holy Eucharist in Plaucheville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Valley and Rosalie Gaspard, Sr. and by four brothers, Stennie, Venix, Irvin and Steven Gaspard. A funeral Mass was held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Bunkie. Arrangements were handled by Melancon Funeral Home.

WINNSBORO, LOUISIANA: Clyde Lee Gates, 86, died November 15, 2006. He was born April 23, 1920 to Dewy and Alice Busby Gates. He was a farmer, and worked for Hatfield Hardware and Lumber. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a Baptist. He is survived by his wife, Mary Richardson Gates; a stepson, Charles R. Goodman and wife Sandy; a stepdaughter, Charlotte Manning and husband Troy; his nieces and nephews; two sisters, Ann Pearrow and Delores Goodman; 9 step-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He is survived by one daughter, Roxanne Brown of Morgan City; one son, David J. Ghirardi of Morgan City; one sister, Marie Byers of Houston; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers and four sisters. Services were held at Twin City Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Wilson officiating. Interment was at the Morgan City Cemetery with full military honors given by the East St. Mary Veterans' Funeral Squad.

HOUMA, LOUISIANA: Louisiana State University Professor emeritus Sess D. (Chub) Hensley, 85, an expert of sugarcane pest management, died January 29, 2005. He was a veteran of the WWII D-Day invasion and the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Norma (Tillie) Patillo Hensley, three daughters, Sessalee Ann Hensley married to William Rusin of New Jersey, Lisa Hensley Weiss married to William Weiss of Atlanta, and Sarah Jane Hensley of Houma, four grandchildren, Lauren Lusco, Eric and Matthew Weiss of Atlanta, and Grace Hensley of Houma. His extended family includes Barry Lusco of Prarieville, Elaine Frederick and Valerie Cooper of Houma. Dr. Hensley was considered a leading authority in the field of sugarcane entomology and traveled worldwide to educate people on the subject. His many contributions to the sugarcane industry earned him numerous awards. In 2004, Dr. Hensley was inducted into the Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University, majoring in Entomology. Upon receiving his doctorate, he continued working with the USDA in Houma to assist in the development of pest management in the sugarcane and soybean industry. In 1963 he accepted a teaching position at Louisiana State University and remained there until 1977 when he returned to the USDA in Houma as a research leader. In 1999 he fully retired. A memorial service was held on February 5, 2005 with Deacon Linwood P. Liner officiating. Arrangements were handled by Chauvin Funeral Home. Burial was at his boyhood home of Mena, AR.

ISTOMIN, Pavel I.
MINDEN, LOUISIANA: Pavel (Paul) Ignatyevich Istomin died December 14, 2004. He was born in the village of Pod'elnyk, Russia on February 23, 1928, before his family's farm was lost during a Stalinist land collectivization. His father was an underground Christian. In 1990, in Ekaterinburg, Pavel helped his daughter, Lydia Istomina, and then-pastor of Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Dr. Dwight Ramsey, establish the first Methodist Church in Russia since the 1917 Revolution. In 1999, Mr. Istomin came to Shreveport with his wife of 50 years, Raisa, to live with their daughter, Irina Gibson and her husband, John. Pavel was a professor of educational psychology, and had several books published in Russia. He was also a poet. He is survived by his wife; two daughters; a son-in-law; 2 grandchildren, Paul Burmenkoand Julia Oden and husband Curtis; his dear friend, Cal Cranor; and many other friends. Interment was at Rose-Neath Cemetery with Rev. Steven Spurlock officiating. Arrangements were handled by Kennon's Mortuary.

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA: Captain Niels Emil Jorgensen, 86, died January 3, 2007. He was native of Assens Fyn, Denmark. As a teenager, he signed on with the training ship Danmark. He served as a Merchant Marine in World War II and became a U.S. citizen in 1946. He was employed by United Fruit Co., and also worked for National Cargo Bureau as a marine surveyor. Later, he formed his own surveying company, and retired in 1984. He enjoyed building ship models. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rita Mae Keller Jorgensen; two daughters, Pam and husband Bob Sherman and Valerie and husband Patrick Hankenhof; four grandchildren, Robert Sherman, Jr., Gretchen Grimes, Holly Story and Michael Hankenhof; 8 great-grandchildren; and Jens and Anna Margrete Jorgensen, Torben and Susanne Jorgensen, and other nieces and nephews of Denmark. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anders and Martha Jorgensen; a sister, Inger Margrethe Jorgensen; and a nephew, Kjeld Jorgensen. NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: Constantin "Chris" Kerageorgiou, 79, died February 4, 2007. He was born December 7, 1927 in Port St. Louis Du Rhone in France. As a teenager, he was part of the French Underground, and also served in the French Army during World War II. He was an internationally recognized chef, and was widely known as "Chef Chris". He came to the United States in 1947, and worked as a baker, cook, maitre d', and waiter. In the 1970s, he opened the La Provence Restaurant. Survivors include his wife, Karen Forbes Kerageorgiou; his daughter, Charleen Leiva; 3 granddaughters; a great-grandson; a brother, Salvas Kerageorgiou; and two sisters, Cecile Ravet and Meline Durandeu. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Dahlstrom; his mother, Maria Catramadu Kerageorgiou; his father, Evangelos Kerageorgiou; two brothers, Vasili Kerageorgiou, and Antoine Kerageorgiou; and a sister, Caliopie Fondis. SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA: Sister Mary Grace Lagana, 91, died October 26, 2005. She was born August 31, 1914. She entered her religious order, the Daughters of the Cross, in 1936, and made her vows on August 24, 1939. She was a longtime teacher and bookkeeper at St. Vincent's Academy, where she taught Latin and English. She was also the director of St. Vincent's Choir, which received many honors at state competitions. COVINGTON, LOUISIANA: Bro. Cassian Lange, FSC, died June 2, 2007 at 90 years of age. He was born Theodore William Lange on February 10, 1917. He was the son of the late Theodore William Lange and Mary L. Richidella Lange. He was a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He took the habit of the Brothers in 1933 in Lafayette, and made his perpetual vows in 1942. He was a teacher, administrator and Vocation Director in many of the Brothers' schools. He served for many years at Saint Paul's School in Covington, and was responsible for several buildings being constructed there. He was a principal at Saint Paul's School, De La Salle High School in New Orleans, and St. Peter's School in New Iberia. Since 1994, he was a member of the retirement community at Saint Paul's School. Survivors include a sister, Anna Inch; a brother, Joseph L. Lange, Sr.; and 11 nephews and nieces. A funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of Peace Chapel in Saint Paul's School with Rev. Peter Blanchard officiating. The eulogy was given by Brother John Fairfax, FSC. Interment was at De La Salle Cemetery in Lafayette, LA.

She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society and served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and former member of the Sacred Heart Parish Council. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Survivors include a daughter, Molly L. Sours (Shawn) of Patterson; a sister, Joan Alpha of Patterson; a brother, Edmond Breaux of California; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lombas; her parents; a brother; three sisters; and a great-grandson, Brian Joseph Pameleaux. Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment was at the Morgan City Mausoleum under the direction of Twin City Funeral Home.

FLORIEN, LOUISIANA: Nellie Addison Lucius, 102, died February 22, 2005. She was a daughter of the late Sidney Y. and Effie Ellzey Addison. She earned a teaching certificate from Louisiana State Normal College, and attended Mary Hardin Baylor College in 1924. She received a BS degree from Northwestern State College and an M.Ed. degree from Stephen F. Austin State Teachers' College. She was a charter member of Plainview Baptist Church, and an active member of First Baptist Church of Florien since 1941. She taught Sunday School for over 40 years. She was a choir member, church clerk for 25 years, and a 50 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Daniel Lucius, Sr.; her parents; 3 brothers; and 7 sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Claire Lucius Thompson and husband Gary of Florien and Katherine Lucius Brumley and husband Hubert of Converse, LA; her sons, Dr. Dan Lucius, Jr. and wife Ann of Baytown, TX and Sidney Y. Lucius, Sr. and wife Jeannette, of Florien; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Services were held at Florien First Baptist Church. Burial was at Florien Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Franklin officiating. Arrangements were handled by Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
