The Finn Brothers

Everyone Is Here
is in stores now - or it should be,
even if it isn't.
Inquire at your local music stores, and complain mightily if they are not stocking it!!!

The Finn Brothers, Neil and Tim, have been making Kiwis proud since long before Peter Jackson ever thought about filming Hobbits and before Keisha Castle-Hughes was even born! Not only are they two of New Zealand's favourite musicians, they are hugely popular throughout the UK, Europe, Japan, and of course, Australia.

Unfortunately, as we all know, the USA has always been a little too wrapped up in itself to notice that there is a whole world out there, and Neil and Tim have never really reached the level of popularity here that they have in other countries. But they deserve to be Huge, and we hope you will help us spread the word!!

Here is what whammo.com.au (the best place to get good music from Australia and NZ!) has to say about the Finn Brothers new cd single, Won't Give In:

"I don't think I've met anyone who is willing to disrespect New Zealand's royal music family: the Finns. Even the haters, cynics and jaded have some inkling of the Finn Brothers' contribution to our region's rich and diverse musical heritage... Now, in what most would concede is the twilight of their careers, two things remain unchanged: the ability to pen amazing songs and, of course, the Finn family inheritance: great voices... it seems the slate is clean and the brothers are presented as equal partners on Won't Give In, an uplifting gem that seems to automatically attract an epic atmosphere, thanks to the calibre of these fine talents. The light rock flavour of this track attests to the fact that vocals are all-important. The days of unnerving their audience are long-gone. When Neil and Tim strain their pipes to create a euphoric crescendo, it's goose-bump material."

The brothers started singing together when they were just boys in Te Awamutu. Tim started Split Enz in the early 70's, and it wasn't long until Neil joined the band (1977). The Enz were huge everywhere, and even had some measure of success in the USA, with songs like "I Got You" and "Six Months in a Leaky Boat". In the early 80's Tim left the Enz, and soon the band disbanded. Neil started his own band, Crowded House. Their first cd included the huge hit "Don't Dream its Over", as well as "Something So Strong".

In 1989, Neil and Tim got together to write songs for a Finn Brothers side project.   The project was scrapped, and Tim joined Crowded House instead.   Many of the songs on CH's 3rd cd, Woodface, were originally meant for the defunct Finn project. This was the first time that the brothers had really written together, and it produced great results. Woodface was probably CH's most critically aclaimed album, and contained such (perfect!) songs as "Chocolate Cake", "Its Only Natural", "Four Seasons in One Day", and perhaps the biggest CH hit (at least for the rest of the world) "Weather With You". Crowded House hit a rough spot in the mid-90s and they played their last concert in 96.

The idea of a true Finn Brothers project finally came to fruition in 1995, when the brothers released the cd Finn. A very artistic album, Finn could almost be called a "homemade" cd - Neil and Tim played all the instruments, and did a large amount of the work without anyone else. Now, FINALLY after eight years (during which both Finns did some wonderful solo work) the second Finn Brother album has arrived!
