Allan Houston is pro basketball player who plays as a No. 20 shooting guard for the New York Knicks. He was born in Louisville , Kentucky . As a toddler only, he was introduced to the sport by his father Wade Houston who was an assistant coach on Denny Crum's Louisville Cardinals team.His favorite Cardinals childhood heroes were Milt Wagner, Darrell Griffith, Derek Smith, Scooter and Rodney McCray, Pervis Ellison, Tony Kimbro, and LaBradford Smith. He got so much involve with this Louisville team that he became their lucky charm. Due to his tall size, he earned the name Big Al.

When he was eight he cheered on his idols and applauded at their slightest of victory in the stands of Market Square Arena in 1980. That year his heroes successfully captured their first national title against UCLA Bruins. He even traveled with the club on a preseason tournament held in Hawai when he was thirteen. Allan' mother was a childhood pal of Muhammad Ali. Unlike many of his NBA contemporaries, Allan's childhood was privileged. His father refined his skills fundamentally, that made him a jumper at early stages of life. He possessed an aggressive competitive spirit that he would shoot for hours on the hoop outside his house. Alllan's first victory was against his father when he dunked on him. At that time he was only 14. Allan even displayed his potential to play basketball in the high school. He started his high school career as a shooting guard, though he was insisted by his coaches to play at the center. He led his club, Bruins to the State Championship in 1988. When Allan's father was offered to serve as a head coach at the University of Tennessee , Allan decided to play for his father. Allan averaged over 20 points in each of his four years and became the all-time leading scorer for UT's men program, and the second leading all-time scorer in the Southeastern Conference . Proceeding toward his senior year for the Volunteers, Allan's father was rusticated. Dejected by the move, his father gave all his time to a trucking company. Allan earned a degree in African-American Studies.

In 1993, Allan was drafted by the Detroit Pistons as the 11 th overall pick. He spent much of his rookie season on the bench backing up Dumars. With injuries to Dumars and Hunter in the 1994-95 season in the All-Star playoffs, Allan received an opportunity to prove himself. He averaged 21.6 points and in the season's final 18 games and registered 25.6 points per game. In 1996, signed a seven year, $56 million contract with the New York Knicks. The same season he also married Tami. Houston 's spent his first season with the Knicks learning how to play with Ewing and according to Knicks methodology. During the 1997 games, Allan was ranked the second-leading scorer in the club. He remained inactive for so many games after undergoing a surgery on 2 nd June 1997 to repair partially torn ligaments in his right wrist. Houston 's closest pal in the Knicks is Christian Charlie Ward. They hold bible studies on the road and pre-game chapels before every Knick game. Allan also joined Christian Athletes United for Spiritual Empowerment to preach the wisdom. In the year 2001, the Knicks re-drafted Allan to a six-year, $100 million contract - making him the highest paid player in the franchise history. Allan also enjoys reading, writing, playing golf and spending quality time with his wife and two children. He even owns his own apparel line.
