Subject: Photocopy of Sarah Gentry's SC Headright Grant
(450 acres)
Dear Bill,
This is the scan of the copy of a copy
of a copy. It looks pretty good at 1:1 but if blown up much
more it really shows the pixelation from the previous scans.
I believe the date on the survey is
1767 and the date on the grant is 1768 instead of the commonly
accepted 1766. It was definitely for 450 acres of
land. Since King George III came to the throne in 1760 and the
signature on the grant document clearly states "in the Eighth Year
of Our Reign" that would at the earliest be 1767 and
perhaps 1768.
As I understand it, there is the
possibility that 'on the Saludy River" means in the watershed
area of the Saludy river and not necessarily on the banks. If
you reference the SC colonial districts on the SC Genweb site and
look at the portion that became Edgefield County it might be
possible that it is a small enough area in which to do some real
estate research.
Please let me know how this turns out
for you.
Regards,
Tom
