Fourteen teams came to partly cloudy Morrilton, AR, to participate in the 2004 NAQT Arkansas Qualifier, on March 6. The teams were split into two seven-team brackets (red and white), which each played a round robin. The top four from each bracket then played the top four from the other bracket, while the bottom three did the same. Teams that played in the top bracket are marked with a T; bottom-bracket teams are marked with a B. The final results are below.
Congratulations to Conway A for winning a thrilling final against Benton, 290-275, to take home the 2004 NAQT Arkansas Championship. Also, congratulations to the Mad Renegades for taking third and qualifying for the 2004 NAQT HSNCT, along with Conway A and Benton. Also, congratulations to Dardanelle for winning the small-school title (though they were the only small school team, it should be noted that Dardanelle finished fifth overall.)
A special thanks to Mrs. Linda Smith of Morrilton High School for setting up rooms and helping take care of a rather sloppy logistical situation. Also, thanks to Ms. Bradi Roberts of Bald Knob for moderating during this eventful tournament.
All-in-all, over $700 was raised to benefit our teammate and friend Phillip Reason of North Little Rock, who is currently in a coma from a brain aneurysm suffered in November. We will keep him and his family in our prayers, and we ask the quizbowl community to do the same. Thanks to all the teams for supporting Phil by playing at this tournament; we sincerely hope that you all enjoyed yourselves.
