Looking Back: Terrell Owens

"I was just feeling really good that day and thought I'd see how far along I'd come," Owens said following his sensational 40-yard-dash, electronically clocked in a record 4.19 seconds at a speed camp in Berkeley, CA, on what is considered a "slow track". Owens, who broke his own record for the track of 4.33 seconds set several months earlier, had recently defeated rookie 49ers wide receiver Michael Jennings, a former Florida State track star, in an impromptu 40-yard-dash in Osaka, Japan. He decided the time was right to see just how fast he had become.

Owens had trained hard all off-season long in both 2001 and 2002, putting primary focus on improving his speed.

"It's not that I wasn't already fast," said Owens, "It's just that I knew I could get much faster if I really concentrated my efforts on improving the performance of my fast-twitch muscle fibers. I'd already come a long way, but I could really feel my body starting to change into one that could do special things from an explosion standpoint, so I decided to see how far I could take it."

The results were breathtaking, as Owens followed up his awk-inspiring display in defeating an elite track athlete by running what is believed to be the fastest legitimate 40-yard-dash time in NFL history.

"To be honest, I thought I could have run a little better," said Owens afterward, "I had run a 4.33 on this track immediately following the 2001 season, and that was against the wind, and Mike (Jennings) had been hand-timed in the 4.19 to 4.21 range before, so I thought I had a chance at getting under 4.1. But I ain't complaining."

Since Owens's run in 2002, no athlete has run better than 4.39 on this surface.

Mark Anderson Drafted by Chicago Bears

AES client Mark Anderson today was selected in the fifth round (159th) by the Chicago Bears.

Anderson performed exceptionally well at the Combine and beat Virginia tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, the fourth overall pick, for a sack in the Senior Bowl. But Anderson slipped into the fifth round even though some experts were projecting him as a second-round selection.

Anderson who clocked a fast 4.61 sec. 40 yard dash and a 42" vertical at the combine posesses sought after speed and explosiveness as a pash rusher.

"I was going into the NFL with a chip on my shoulder anyway," he said, "but this will put more fuel to the fire because right now I'm mad."

While he was upset about slipping in the draft, Anderson is ecstatic about joining the Bears.

"I wanted to go to Chicago because I love the way they play their 4-3 defense," he said. "I love the way they rush the passer and get after the quarterback. I think that's one of my main specialties."

Joseph Addai Rules 2006 NFL Scouting Combine

Saturday was his day. After 6 long weeks training he was ready to show the NFL who’s who what he could do. And that he did…

ESPN Reported this morning the following headline “Addai and Winston increase draft status at NFL Combine”.

LSU running back Joseph Addai made a statement yesterday on the new Field Turf in the RCA Dome. Many questioned how fast the surface would be, that was no obstacle for Joseph Addai. After all he had something to prove. His first 40 was a cautious 4.41 sec. 40 yard dash. He executed a great start and accelerated through the finish. But there was more…

On his second 40 he threw down, blistering a 4.37 40 yard which was later recognized as the fastest running back time at the combine. The six weeks he trained with PCT was worth it. He also had a first place scores for running backs with a vertical jump of 38.5 inches and a huge broad jump of 10’5”.

How did he do it?

After the testing PCT's Mike Gough had a chance to meet up with him to talk. He said that the all the techniques he learner from Gough made the difference. He said he was so confident that if he worked the technique and combined with his athletic ability, he would perform the best.

Addai definitely turned some heads and raised his draft status with his performance.
