2003
2/1-2/03 Butterfield Trail
Splasher, Trekker, Toro Good hike. Tried to get my two mates to rappel to no avail. Splasher had every coyote in the area howling thru' the night.
Temp:60-70's Rating:***1/2

2002
3/16,17/02 Upper Buffalo Wilderness-Bowers Hollow
Coyote, Splasher, Gash, Toro.
Did some rappelling from 30-40 ft bluffs.Actually we had to rappel to get into the hollow. Saw a 65 foot waterfall. Camped under a bluff over-hang over looking the waterfall.
Temp:50's Rating:****

4/14,15/02 Upper Buffalo Wilderness-Hubbard Hollow
Did some rapplelling and major climbing. Camped along the river just way from the mouth of Hubbard. Came down near a nice 50 foot waterfall.
Temp:70's Rating:****

5/13,14/02 Buffalo National River-Indian Creek
Nate, Gash, Toro.
Major hike! Went through eye of the needle. Rappelled down the side of a 50 foot waterfall. Had some rice with hot sauce. Very cool.
Temp:80's Rating:****

5/27,28/02 Buffalo National River

Did an 80 foot rappell. Major climbing. Alot of fun.
Temp:80's Rating:****

2001
12/8,9/01 Hurricane Creek Wilderness
Players: Coyote, Hounddog, Gash, Toro.
Hounddog and Coyote made an unexpected return on this trip to Hurricane Creek. We saw alot more hikers than I had expected. I believe it was 10 all together in the 5.5 mile stretch to Hurricane Creek. I had a very good time.
Temp:90's Rating:****

9/28,29/01 Upper Buffalo Wilderness "Whitaker"
Players: Trekker, Splasher, Gash, Toro.
Started out at Kapark Cemetery once again. Bypassed Hubbard Hollow this time and went down an unnamed hollow to Whitaker Creek. We had to use ropes on one section to get down. It was extremely fun. We passed Whitaker Point , looming a tousand-feet above, on our way to the Buffalo River. We just made camp by dark after having trudge through waist deep water and a hundred yard of head high briars in the dark. This a very exciting trip.
Temp:90's Rating:****+

9/22,23/01 Upper Buffalo Wilderness "Hubbard Hollow"
Players: Firewalker, Gash, Toro.
Started out at Kapark Cemetery. We nade our way down an old road. (Hard to tell how old , but certainly no traffic in several decades.) Then took off down Hubbard Hollow to Buffalo River. Hubbard is extremely steep and rugged. Extremely huge boulders all the way down. It was musc more dangerous going down than coming up.
Temp:90's Rating:****+

7/4,5/01 Upper Buffalo Wilderness Bushwhack
Players: Gash, Trekker, Toro.
We bushwhacked down to Boen Gulf and followed the Creek to the Buffalo River. It was a mostly dry creek bed with GIANT boulders, rock formations, and caverns. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. Absolutely awesome. About a 10 mile round trip. We camped on a large rock that was about 6 feet high and 10 feet by 20 feet square. It was sitting just inside the Buffalo River.
Temp:90's Rating:****+

6/23,24/01 OHT Section 1
Players: Gash, Trekker, Toro.
A pretty cool section that starts at Lake Ft Smith and ends at White Rock Mountain (a beautiful spot). We hiked the entire 18.7 miles in one day. Had alot of fun and saw alot of cool stuff.
Temp:90 Rating:****

5/26,27/01 OHT Section 6
Players: Gash, Splasher, Toro.
Just got back from Section 6. Moved this trip up and the 38 mile trip back. It was a great trip. The last part of this section is up, up , up. We saw some huge, awesme rocks in a many formations. And of course Hurricane Creek is very enchanting. A paradise.
Temp:80's RATING:****

4/28-29/01 OHT Section 5
Players: Splasher, Gash, Raging Bull..... No Kioti this time. Big Daddy Smith dropped us off at the Ozone trailhead. We got started about 10am. What a beautiful day! We saw 3 wild turkeys and a black snake that rattled his tale just like a rattlesnake. That's about all the animals we saw besides buzzards, lizards, and a lone tortoise.
We made 12.5 miles to Cedar Creek the first day. We camped at a well used camp site right on the creek. We had some delicious chili and rice with tortillas before chilling out and hitting the sack.
After a breakfast of ramen noodles and Payday bars we got started at 8am the next morning. We passed cedar pool a very nice place to swim I suspect. We only had 7.5 miles to do today and most of it downhill and flat. We made it to Big Piney Trailhead around 12:30 that afternoon.
Temp:80's RATING:****

3/31/01 Craig's Loop
Kioti, Splasher, Gash, Toro: This was not an official trail. It was a nice trip that Kioti discovered awhile back. There were some nice caves, caverns, waterfalls and boulders. There was one 20 foot boulder with a hole in it, standing at 1500 feet. You could look through the hole and see the mountains miles away. Awesome trip.
Temp:80's RATING:****

3/17-18/01 Buffalo River/Hemmed In Hollow
Toro, Kioti, Gash, Firewalker: This was our most adventurous hike so far. Since we actually rafted 8 miles the first day. This was Firewalker's first trip.
He was teamed with Kioti and Gash and myself were in the other raft. Gash and I started off on the wrong foot by not having the raft aired up properly. Hence we got a hole and lost all in air in our floor board. We were stuck on a large rock in the middle of a strong current. We had to get out of the raft to free it up, so we were soaked. But it kept floating. We hit alot of good turns, waves and currents(Class I-II). That was very fun!
We saw the tallest waterfall between the Rockies and Appalachians at Hemmed-In Hollow (180-200 feet).
The hike out the next day was very steep in parts and we didn't make it back to the car until 6:30 pm. It was a great time!
Temp:50's-mid 20's at night RATING:****

3/3-4/01 Ozark Highlands Trail Section 3
Gash, Kioti, Toro: We dropped our car off at the end of the section and Dad drove us to the start at Cherry Bend. Got Started around 10am (a late start for us). There were some nice old homesteads, steep climbs and beautiful water falls. We camped beside Herrods Creek. We saw more hikers on this section than we've seen all previous hikes put together.
Temp:hi40's-lo30's at night RATING:***

2/3-4/01 Butterfield/Devil's Den Trails
Coyote, Gash, Hounddog, Toro: Our first trip in over 3 months. Hounddog was sicker than a dog! We started with the shorter Devil's Den Trail which had a really nice cave filled with hundreds or thousand of bats. On the the longer Butterfield Trail we saw some really nice bluffs and over-hangs, a couple of deer, five or six Armadillos, a few crows and hundreds of buzzards. We camped at mile-seven on Lee Creek. It was cold at times, but all in all the weather was pretty nice for February.
Note: A couple of weeks after we had visited Devil's Den Cave a kid got stuck in a crack somewhere inside the cave.Apparently he was stuck there for several hours before being rescued.
Temp:30-hi40's RATING:**1/2

2000
5/14-15/00 Section 5 Ozone
Coyote, Trailhead, Toro: Our first and longest trip. We hiked 15 miles in and 15 miles out, a total of 30 miles..yes I can add! Saw a couple of nice waterfalls. Saw a few bear signs, a turkey and her chicks, the biggest green snake I have ever seen and others.
Temp: 70-80's RATING: ***

6/10/00 Section 5
Trailhead, Toro: We made it 3 miles and got rained out. We were actually finishing section 5.
Temp: 80's RATING: **

7/7-8/00 Section 6 Hurricane Creek
Toro, Coyote, Hounddog: Hounddog's first trip. We hiked 12 miles on this trip. Jumped in the deeper parts of Hurricane Creek to cool off. We saw alot of mushrooms including the most deadly; Destroying Angel. We also saw other strange fungi, one that looked alot like spinner jigs attached to an old rotten log. We encountered one party of 3 hikers from Oklahoma. lmao One of them fell at least a dozen times crossing slippery Hurricane Creek. This is one of my favorite trails. Very peaceful.
Temp: 90's RATING: ***

8/5-6/00 Section 6 Hurricane Creek
Coyote, Gash, Hounddog, Gash: Gash's first trip. We hiked 15 miles on this trip. We went a little further than the last time on this trail. The trail was washed out by the Hurricane Creek in several spots, but we managed to find our way. We saw a huge timber rattler, bear signs, squirrels of course and Bigfoot!...just kidding no bigfeet.
Temp:90's RATING: ***1/2

9/2,3/00 White Rock/Shores Lake Loop
Gash, Hounddog, Coyote, Toro: This was one of the toughest climbs I have ever done. Going up the west loop to White Rock Mountain is very steep, especially in 100+ temperatures. But this was also one of my favorite hikes just because of White Rock Mountain which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. You can see for miles virtually around the whole mountain. Always take the West Loop first to White Rock then the Left Loop back because the Left Loop going up would be even worse than the right..trust me.
NOTE: A week after visiting White Rock Mountain a college kid from UA fell to his death from one of the cliffs. Sadly the sign reads "7 people have fallen to their death." now.
Temp: 100's RATING: ****

9/30/00 White Rock Rim Loop
Trekker's first trip. A short day hike around the rim of White Rock Mountain (3 miles). But it is non stop beautiful scenery all the way around.
Temp:70's RATING: ****

10/28/00 Pigeon Roost Trail
Gash, Toro: This is a quaint little trail which we hiked just to kind of get away from the hunters. It is a 9 mile trail with not much scenery. We had planned to hike 4-5 miles to the campsites and stay the night, but decided to finish it in one day. Took us only 5 hours to finish, even with several breaks.
Temp:80's RATING: **
