Joel BROOKS was born about 1752 in Prince Edward County, Virginia and died after 1830 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He married Martha (probably ROBERTSON) on 16 Oct 1799 in Charlotte County, Virginia. Martha died sometime after 1820



Joel and Martha had the following children:

2. Nancy BROOKS HAMBLIN, abt 1775-UNKNOWN
3. Elijah BROOKS, abt 1776-UNKNOWN
4. Levi BROOKS, abt 1777-DEC 1815

6. James Robinson BROOKS, 11 JUN 1786-21 MAR 1836*

21 JAN 1784: Prince Edward County, VA. Deed Book 8, page 274-275, Witness sale of land by John and Lillyann Brooks to Thomas Chandler for 180 pounds, 200 acres on Snail Creek.
1785: Prince Edward County, VA, head of Families (8 White souls and 1 Dwelling in Prince Edward County, VA in 1785)
1787: Charlotte Co. VA, Personal Property Tax List B: charged with tax on himself, 1 horse, no slaves nor cattle.
1793: Law suit: Joel Brooks vs. ? Huggins
1796: Law suit: John Clark vs. Joel Brooks
1796: Law suit: Richard Bibb vs. Joel Brooks, Miles Bottom, William Clay
1800: Charlotte County, VA
1802: Lawyer trying to collect money states "Joel and Thomas Brooks live in Lunenburg Co. they were insolvent in 1783 and have been ever since."
1820: Lunenburg Co. Census: Joel Brooks, 1 male and 1 female over 45 years of age, 1 female 10-15
1822: Lunenburg County Will Book 8, witness will for Elizabeth Jordan, 14 July, 1822
1830: Lunenburg County Census: 1 male 70-80, 1 female 10-15, 2 female slaves 10-24
