This is not fanfiction, and the characters are copyright their respective players Courtyard(#1111RIJ) The courtyard is the heart of the Harper Hall quadrangle,
a vast expanse of grey flagstone without a trace of greenery. Several
shallow flights of stairs tiptoe their way upward to a variety of doors
around the courtyard's perimeter. The towering cliff walls of the Fort
Mountains surge upwards in sheer splendor, the drum heights precariously
toed into a large outcropping, as if climbing the wall. Several broad
windows pierce the solid rock face, giving an air of lightness and welcome.
The bustle and sheer exuberance of the courtyard atmosphere threaten to
take your breath away.As you pause, getting your bearings, your eyes scan
the yard. The massive doors of the Main Hall rest at the top of a small
flight of stairs to the west. The staircase to the drum heights rises
to the northwest. The apprentice dorms are located to the north, while
the entrance to the instrument workshop is northeast. The broad expanse
of the arch crouches to the east, with the Voice Master's rooms to the
south. A small flight of stairs in the southwest corner darts down into
the kitchen. Varoni is apparently enjoying the evening, sitting on one of the benches out of the way, a couple of firelizards sitting on or around him. Edris enters the courtyard looking just a little distracted, half skipping
as she moves. Muttering under her breath, though not bad-naturedly she
pauses and looks around. "Oh, look at all those 'lizards.' she says
making her way over to the bench. Varoni looks up and smiles pleasantly. "Hello there," he greets the other with a slight smile. "Welcome to Harper Hall." Jalar walks out of the apprentice dorms. Jalar start to head for the Main Hall, but he stops to nod respectfully to Master Varoni. "Evening, Sir." Varoni tilts his head up to the side. "Hello, apprentice," he greets Jalar. "Jalar this is... erm, I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name?" he asks of the girl. Edris looks up from the firelizards, pushing her hair from her eyes and
smiling back. "Hello. You haven't seen a rider around here have you?
She's probably found a -boy- to talk to but I can't find her." The
tone seems to say that he has not that much time for -boys- as such and
her head tilts to one side. "Oh, I'm Edris." she answers rather
quietly. Jalar's eyes go a little wide at the mention of a rider. His head swivels
around looking about the Courtyard and up on the Drum Heights. "D-dragon?
No. I h-haven't seen one." Edris's smile widens as Jalar looks for the rider, and she starts to chuckle. "It's only Tali anyway." she says as if that explains everything. "I'm from Tillek, sir." she says as she suddenly remembers her manners. "My sister brought me over because she had to see someone, but I wandered off." Varoni glances up at Jalar for a moment, quirking a smile. "You
wandered over here?" he queries, one eye closing in a half-wince
as one of the singers mangles a note or two over in the voice hall. "Fond
of harpers, are you?" Edris shrugs "I was just wandering really." She looks thoughtful for a moment, then sets her head bobbing, sending those curls out and round her face again. "I suppose so, at Tillek Hamari is always nice." Varoni smiles once. "You've spoken to our good journeywoman then. You wanting to be a harper?" he asks lazily, absently giving one of his blue firelizards a scritch. Tirom comes out of the Voice Hall, closing the door firmly behind him. Tirom wanders outside, glancing around. Jalar quietly waves to Tirom. The door leading to the apprentices door opens, or do they have one in the first place...? Nonetheless, /that/ is where Illiyana exits from and so it doesn't matter, too much. The lithe apprentice harper sweeps herself towards the courtyard, pausing only to allow a small chattering bronze lizard to subside into balance upon her shoulder. Lips of a soft pinkish shade curl into a slight smile and then those emerald spheres cast about the area before a greeting, politely so, is offered. She bows quickly to the Apprentice master, recognizing his face most easily amongst those who are but a faint blur in her memory. Edris gives a little nod. "I'd like to one day, sir." she adds almost as she moves back a few steps to watch all the people. "There's lots of people here." she mutters quietly. Varoni returns Illiyana's bow with a vague wave, gesturing for the others to take seats or sit on the flagstones as they choose. "Well, we are the primary crafthall," he acknowledges Edris' comment. "Have you learned much from your hold's harpers?" he asks casually.Tirom pauses as he sees the people, and wanders over closer to the conversation Edris nods.. then thinks.. then nods again. "I've -tried- to learn." she says hesitantly, as if anything that she hasn't absorbed couldn't possibly be her fault. "But it's sometimes hard to remember it all." Varoni lets loose a grin. "I know how that is," he says with a sympathetic voice, glancing up at the apprentices as case studies. "Well, what /do/ you remember?" Illiyana finally comes closer and then untucking slender hands from her pockets, she tips her head in a nod towards Edris before subsiding a moment, casting a look around. Noticing Tirom, the young woman tosses him a general wave. Then Jalar's offered one as well. A pause as realization comes -- Varoni's looking at the apprentices. Ohoh. Jalar flinches a bit at the Apprentice Master's glance. "Well..." Edris grins at the apprentices and flops herself down on the ground before continuing. "Well, I can play little tunes on pipes." Shoulders shrug as if she readily acknowledges that the tunes are indeed not very good. "And I can sing a little bit. I help the nannies sing the babies to sleep at home sometimes, and they seem to like that." This she seems rather proud of. Illiyana Varoni Varoni nods and absently cracks the knuckles of one hand. To the casual glance, he's done that a lot in his life, for the knuckles are showing the very first stages of joint-ail. "Could you play us something?" he asks curiously, leaning back against the cool stone of the main hall at his back. "That's a good start..." Illiyana finally offers, her voice soft and just several octaves above a whisper. It is almost as if she's trying not to barge totally into the conversation. A throaty croon from a small brown head draws her attention away, slim fingers tapping Eyin's head lightly. Whirling eyes lift to peek up at his pet, right as an apologetic creel emits from the sheepsh little lizard. Right as that's dealt with, the young woman turns back right as Varoni speaks up. A blink and hmm.... this'll be interesting. Edris's grin fades slowly as she surveys the people in the group, and more importantly, the man on the bench! Play something? To Harper-type people? Hmmm.. Eyes brighten again as she shakes her head "I can't." she says. "I don't have any pipes." and to this young girl, that makes sense.. no pipes no music - simple. Jalar pulls the simple single reed pipe from his belt and offers it to Master Varoni. Illiyana's lips curl into a small smile and then the young woman mms. "Problem solved." There is the hint of impishness in those brilliant orbs of emerald and a look is thusly shot towards Jalar, lips threatening to twitch into a huge cheesy grin, but stops short -- thankfully. Tirom grins to Jalar, and then simply finds a place to stand nearby, listening. Varoni takes Jalar's pipe with the proper respect for the instrument and proffers it to Edris. "Try this," he suggests impudently. "And don't worry, we don't bite. Unless asked." Edris turns her gaze to Jalar and almost looks as if she's going to pout,
indeed her lips start to move that way, but she manages to turn it into
some bizarre pre-pipe playing exercise. Reaching out for the pipe she
places her fingers with care, frowning as she makes sure that they are
in the proper place, obviously going through instructions in her mind.
With another quick glance around the group she tentatively plays a simple
melody, only consisting of about 5 notes the first time, and then repeats
with a little ornamentation. Jalar listens attentively. Standing with his hands behind his back, he looks to Master Varoni. Varoni purses his lips thoughtfully, tapping a finger against them. "What else do you remember?" he quizzes the girl, almost absent-mindedly. Indeed, he seems to be looking up at the stars, not at the kids around him. Halfnote chirrups from his shoulder, the bronze firelizard watching someone's queen flittering about above the courtyard. With a slight tilt of her head, and an attentive ear given to the young girl, Illiyana stifles a chuckle, easily catching the beginnings of a pout. Leaning up against a bench, she crosses her legs, bearing most weight upon her right leg instead of both. The moment the melody is played, her lips curl into a soft smile, the beat caught deftly and her fingers tap upon her thigh. However, the minute it's over, she pauses and then grins but keeps quiet as the Master speaks up. Speaking of queens...the demanding little queenlet of hers is thankfully no where to be found. Tirom grins as well, clapping quickly to the song, and says, "That was good.""Like what?' Edris is nothing if not blunt at times, though not disrespectful. "I could sing something that I sing to the littles?" She leans back a little placing her hands on the ground to balance herself. Not the best position to sing granted, but that doesn't matter. She smiles over to Tirom in thanks. Varoni closes his eyes, his expression quite innocent for a 50-turn-old. "Whatever you want," he says lazily. Edris nods and thinks briefly before taking a deep breath, pulling herself as tall as she can, seeing as she's still sitting down, and starts into a lullaby. Swaying slightly as if an instinctive motion born from rocking littles to sleep with the familiar tune, she even manages a little smile as she gets through the first verse and starts on the second. Her voice gets a little more confident as she manages to not making any glaring mistakes as she goes, though a couple of the higher notes seem a little strained. Drawing to a close she realises that she has been rocking and giggles softly. "The tiny ones like that one best." she says by means of explaination of her choice. Jalar smiles and nods his head in time with the lullaby, his eyes half-closed. Varoni must have liked that one a lot, for a soft snore issues from his lips. Tirom giggles a bit as he hears Varoni's snore. He says, "Master?" While the lizards around her sleep soundly, Illiyana's just listening, lips curled into a soft smile. Her fingers lightly tap upon you arm but she starts at the snort and grins, "Looks like that's a good on than most of the littles. They usually take a few times through at least." Varoni starts awake as he hears voices and someone kicks his foot. Giving a mild glare at the apprentices around him, he then eyeballs Edris. "Passable, I suppose," he comments, adding, "I was just resting my eyes," in his own defense. "Do you remember anything about drums or brass or making anything?"She murmurs, laughing and coughs. Jalar discretely nudges Master Varoni's foot. Edris blinks a few times then starts to laugh "He went to sleep a lot easier nothing but the most innocent of looks. She smiles warmly towards Edris but wisely doesn't offer comments -- nope. Time at the hall definitely reminds this one that speaking or joking about a master when the MASTER is around .. would be an ill-made choice. Edris shakes her head solemnly. "Not really. I think that must have been when the others were so noisy that I couldn't hear the lessons." Innocence flows from those eyes as ever as the headshake changes to a bob..bob. bobbing. "But I'd learn better away from those -boys- at home I'm sure." Varoni notes with a gesture to Jalar and Tirom and a few other male apprentices scurrying from the instrument workshop across the courtyard, "There are boys here, too. Lots of them. Until fairly recently, we were an all-boys craft, after all." Edris nods again. "But they aren't the -same- boys. The ones at home are just.. just..." she hmmphs trying to think of the word that she wants. "They just aren't nice." At this point she gives a curious look at Tirom, but turns back to the Master. "It would be different." she says decisively. Varoni nods his chin once, but his expression is neutral, not giving Edris any clue whether he liked or disliked her answer. "How many turns have you?" Regular interrogation guy, he is. Jalar partially stiffles a chuckle. A delicate cough from Illiyana and turning slightly, she gently covers her mouth, concealing a laugh barely. She turns right back and then looks over to the other apprentices, grinning behind her hand and winking at Jalar and then irom. Innocently once more, her attention is drawn towards the apprentice master and then Edris. Edris looks at Jalar then.. maybe boys are the same here after all, then shakes her head to clear her head, perish the thought! "I've 11 and a half turns." she says proudly, raising a brow slightly towards the coughing. The extra half turn makes all the difference apparently. Varoni stretches out his legs from the bench. "One would hope you're not seeing anybody," he comments, directing one of those Masterly glances at the apprentices. Edris blinks incredulously "Seeing anyone? Ewww." Eloquence.. pure eloquence, and then she remembers herself. "I mean, no sir." Tirom just rocks a little on his feet as he listens curiously. Eyes simply widen and then Illiyana tilts her head. She didn't do anything - this time, honestly. Subsiding, she bites her lip at Edris' comment. She almost busts a gut yet manages to keep it under wraps and subsequently it remains a though in her head. An amusing one, in this case. Varoni smirks at the addendum. "You would do well to remember the sir and ma'am. Not many of my colleagues are as lazy about that as I am," he says, then fishes in his pouch, tossing a tangled simple knot at the girl. "Unless you have any objections to joining our august company and /learning/ what you do not know, and that will be quite a bit, I might add." Varoni rises to his feet and yawns. "You kids make sure she gets a cot in the dorms, and show her around. Olivia's the headwoman around her, go see her first thing in the morning for anything you need, and she'll get you fixed up with anything. No classes first thing, but tomorrow after midday, you report there," he points to the voice hall, "for your first lesson as an honest-to-Faranth harper. Now, I'll leave you kids be." He gathers up his firelizards and starts toward the main hall, muttering about not being able to stay up as late as he used to. Edris catches the knot and simply looks at it for a moment before her face breaks into a smile "You meant that I can stay here?" she asks looking round at the group. "And I promise to work very hard." she adds as the master leaves. Kelset emerges from the main hall and is quickly swept up in the bustle of the courtyard. Kelset has arrived. Jalar cheers for the new addition, "Welcome to the Hall, Edris!" Varoni stops as he spies Kelset. He thumbs the new girl and the other apprentices. "Roddy will be pleased," he comments. Tirom grins to the girl, "Lotsa work, but it's lotsa fun too." A wide smile and Illiyana finally speaks up. "Congratulations." to the newly made junior apprentice and a look is casted to the master, lips curled upwards. She think s a moment but then her head shakes slightly. "See you later, Master Varoni." She calls over, and then her attention is swiftly drawn back to the young girl and she meanders over, pausing, "Kids?" Mockingly, she looks affront but dissolves into soft giggles. Edris stays sitting on the ground fiddling with the knot as she adds it to her clothes. "Thankyou." she says quietly, looking up to smile at the group. "Is it really hard work?" she asks after Tirom's comment. "Fun?" The word is marked by an arched brow as the speaker of the word approaches the knot of Apprentices. "Faranth, but something must be done about this," Kelset says, carrying a leather satchel over-full of hides against his chest, one arm wrapped around it. Lifting a slight, warm smile to his lips, he then nods once to Edris. "I trust, if I glean the rub from this tumult accurately, that you are to be a new Apprentice. Congratulations: that's a very high honour." His emerald eyes are lifted to Varoni, and his smile grows. "Are you responsible for this, Apprentice Master?" Tirom grins as he glances back up to Kelset, and then he looks back to Edris, nodding quickly. "But it's not like chore work..well, some of it is, but mostly learning work." Varoni shrugs one shoulder lazily. "She is a bit rough around the edges," he replies to his fellow master. "But I believe she has the potential. You get her first thing tomorrow afternoon." Edris looks over and gives a proud grin to the masters, then turns back to the others. "Better than doing the fish at home." she says with a shrug in response to Tirom's mention of chores. "Anything's better than that." Kelset breathes a soft chuckle without altering his amused expression. "Rough about the edges, mm? Well, you know your business, Master Varoni, and I more than trust your ability to smooth them out. Worse could have been said of many of us at arrival," he replies. "Tomorrow afternoon! Good; I can begin work on honing the edge that is my particular responsibility." A step or two toward Varoni removes him from the group of Apprentices, leaving them to speak among themselves. "Did you get a feel of her voice at all?" Jalar notices the Masters bantering between themselves, so he takes the opportunity to hold his hand out to Edris, "May I have my pipe back now, please?" High honor... glean? This sets Illiyana's curiosity on high gear but then she remembers manners and then dips her head firmly towards the /other/ master. Kelset. A ponderative glance and she subsides into a silent moment. As her hands now tuck back into her pockets, she subsides to a moment of thought and then a small grin touches upon her lips -- mostly in amusement but partially hinting on warmth.. or welcome in this case. "Sir?" She looks to Kelset now and then recalls -- oh he's the voice master...! "She has good potential.." And lowering her voice, she adds, "She put a certain master to slumber.. with a good lullaby.." Varoni glances over his shoulder to the clump of apprentices. "More rough edges, but definitely workable. Chorus work at the very least." Then he grimaces and narrows his eyes at Illiyana's comment. "Yes, well, she did do that," he admits a bit gruffly. Edris ohs and hands the pipe back carefully to Jalar, stiffling a giggle as comment is made about the lullaby. Hands freed, she finishes fixing her knot, and turns her head to check it out. Yep.. looks good there. Jalar takes the pipe and returns it to the customary location, snugged under his belt. "She put Master Varoni to sleep, did she?" Kelt asks, expression carefully controlled. Emerald eyes glance from Master to Apprentice, and eyebrows are arched. "Well, let credit be placed where credit is due, then," he says, his tone of amusement not entirely concealed. Shifting his attention from Illiyana to Varoni, he nods once more. "Good. I'm sure she'll work out wonderfully."The innocence in Illiyana's eyes are genuine but she smiles sweetly to Varoni before tilting her head. However, she wisely doesn't add anymore, eyes sparkling once they dart over towards Edris. Yup, she's going to like this one, definitely. At that moment, the young woman then subsides into a soft chuckle, already edging closer to the new apprentice. Never one really sharp with said tongue, Illiyana most notibly proved a point -- ayup. Varoni wrinkles his nose in an expression of mild mock annoyance. "She'd better," he growls and stalks into the main hall for a real nap.Varoni heads into the main hall of the building. Tirom grins, and then asks Edris, "Where're ya from?" Kelset nods after Varoni's retreating form and turns his attention to the Apprentices once more. "Ah, Apprentice? If I caught your name I've forgotten it," he says, clearing his throat softly. Edris finally stands from her seat on the ground dusting herself off as she moves over a step or two close to Illiyana. Girls having to stick together and all that kind of thing. "It's Edris, sir." she says politely "And I'm from Tillek." she adds to answer Tirom. Tirom blinks, and grins then, "Me too! My parents got a cothold near it, and I was fostered to Lady Selchin 'fore I came here." Kelset places a hand on Tirom's shoulder, flashing him a brief smile. "I'm sorry to interrupt you, Tirom," he murmurs, before addressing Edris once more. "Well met, then, Edris. I'm Master Kelset, Master Kelt if you like, and I'll be teaching your first class tomorrow afternoon, and also leading the Chorus. Do you know your scales?" Tirom smiles a bit sheepishly up to Kelset, and doesn't say anything more yet. With a small smile gracing her lips -- most of the time anyhow, Illiyana manages to stop besides Edris and then casts a look to Kelset. Kelt? She then ponders --- where'd he get such a nickname? Nonetheless, she stores it for future use, when she mayhaps forgotten his FULL name. She looks from the master and then to Tirom, chuckling. She /likes/ him.. definitely. Er.. Master Kelset, that is. Edris nods, shrugs and then nods more firmly "Somewhat, sir." she says, smiling as Illiyana draws near. "Though I'm sure that I've not paid nearly enough attention to them at home, and I've a lot to learn still." From the impression that she gets, make that a -lot- to learn. Kelset nods once, quickly. "Somewhat; that's fine. Apprentice..." he trails off, pursing his lips slightly, furrowing his brow at Illiyana. "Either you don't need much extra help for the choral ensemble, or you've made an attempt to avoid me. In either event, I've forgotten your name. Do you have time to do me a favour? Could you run Apprentice Edris over her scales before tomorrow afternoon? At least make certain she's comfortable with adjusting the intervals as she goes up the scales so she's not left without an anchor tomorrow. Because I'll certainly move her quickly." "You got lots of time." Illiyana quickly offers, adding, "And plenty of help." A warm grin crosses her lips but then she pauses, "Sir?" And a soft 'oh', "Illiyana, sir." Scales? Oh, "Yes, sir, I'll do that." And she'll have her gitar with her. Who knows? She might run off the scale by accident (sorry for the pun). "Illiyana," Kelset confirms, a smile flashing upon his lips. "Good. Well, Edris, I believe I leave you in good hands. Goodnight, both of you," he says, his smile broad and warm, now. "Enjoy your first night at the Hall." Turning, he pats Tirom's shoulder once, murmuring, "Someone else from Tillek, Tirom! I'm happy for you." A wink, a series of quick, even footfalls, and the Master disappears within the Voice Hall. Kelset opens the door to the Voice Hall, pausing for a moment on the threshold before disappearing inside. "There is .. a trait in these masters.. once they're done, they leave rather hastily." Illiyana murmurs under her breath right as Master Kelset leaves, having caught the smile. Taking a deep breath, she then casts a look over to Edris, "Anyhow.. I think.. you should rest up a bit... cause you probably had quite a .. day?" Jalar excuses himself quietly, leaving the girls and the young Tirom to chat. Jalar heads into the apprentice dorms. Edris looks round a little blankly. 'Umm..." she says quietly "I'd best get word home somehow. I wonder where Tali got to?' She looks around the courtyard to no avail and sighs a little. Lifting her eyes she peers at Tirom. "Were you one of those boys who played with Dunkan?. Oh.. I know you.. " She grins and shakes her head to Illiyana. "He had one of those.. umm.. wild things." she says. Yeah.. that made sense. Dunkan steps out of the transport wagon as it rumbles to a halt just inside the courtyard. Tirom nodnods, and smiles, "Sometimes." Then nodnods. "I helped raise a wild feline. Found a bunch of them when me and Jax and Meril were lost." "Wild things?" This throws Illiyana for a look and her head tilts slightly, a brow lifted -- curiosity striking a gleam in her brilliant green orbs and then a mm, before her hands find her pockets before they hide within them. A ringing warble echoes around the courtyard and this sets the young woman wincing. "CRYSTL!" The aforementioned gold queenlet sweeps down to her favored perch and subsides upon Illi's right shoulder. "Cuuuuuuurley heeeeead!! Curley curley smelly tooooo!" Dunkans voice proceeds him into the courtyard, and when the small lad does appear, it's with a swagger in his step. Umbered eyes gaze with bordom over the many faces that loom above him, seeking out the one he's been sent to check on.. Edris. One grimy paw is holding up his trous, the other clenched around his slingshot, and occasionally he pauses to take random aim at some twittering girl that passes. Of course, he doesn't fire anything, but he makes suitable noises and staggers about with each shot as if he's imagining their reactions to a rock in the forhead clearly. "Oif! Oh! He got me!" he wails exaggeratedly. Tirom looks back over as he hears the voice, and grins, waving quickly to the younger boy. "NO!" Edris nearly drops on the spot, instead jumping sidewards to hide behind Illiyana 'You can't let him see me.' she stage whispers to the older woman." The aforementioned curls flying everywhere as she shakes her head vigorously. "I'm not here, I was never here.' she whispers over and over, willing the boy away.. or to Tirom.. or anywhere but where he can see her. The voice definitely catches Illiyana's attention for once thing and then emerald green orbs come to rest upon the lad whom appeared just.. recently. She manages a small grin and then she looks over to Edris, assuming the other MIGHT know this raucacous boy. But courtesy she must abide and a wave it sent to the boy. However, she pauses and then realizes WHO curly head is. Ah-hah. Being taller by a good few inches, the harper apprentice blinks. "What am I.. a..hiding post?" Indeed, Dunkan is too drawn into his little game of stoning silly girls to notice Edris right off, only turning in time to catch Tirom's wave and then the woman beside him. His button nose scrunches up at the second, but he trots right over to Tirom, his expression blazing into a full, glorious grin. "Tirom!" he shouts happily, coming to a stop at the older boys side. "I heard you'd come here! How is it? Do you like it? I hear there arn't many girls.. it must be great, huh?! Maybe I can come too someday! I wrote a song, wanna hear it?!" His enthusiasm pours out, fairly bouncing from toe to toe, and at the end he thrusts his slingshot up in front of Tirom's face. "Look! I made it myself!" Edris turns brown eyes upwards and nods "If you wouldn't mind just this once." she says still whispering, but answering the hiding post question. "Quick" she says shuffling a few steps over towards the hall "If we go quietly, he won't notice me and we'll be safe." Shuffle..shuffle.. stop. A grin crosses over Illiyana's lips and then she smirks at the way that nose crunches at the sight of her. Tilting her head, she then ponders, "Should I burst his little bubble... or let him think there aren't much girls here.." And then hearing something, her head dips in a nod. "Since you don't like girls..." She speaks to the young boy, she grins almost teasingly, "Might as well head in.. and see how well I can put words to a song." The apprentice makes it for the... dorm... carefully moving with perfect .. natural.. steps. Yup. In fact, she is nearly over there, too. Just a few more feet.. shuffles. Tirom giggles a bit, and says, "Yep, I'm here. And it's lotsa fun! Music alla time." He grins, not answering about the girls, but says, "Sure, sing the song. Bet it's great!" He grins again as he sees the slingshot, "That looks great." Dunkan listens raptly as Tirom speaks, obviously the boy somewhat idolizes the older lad, and when he's encouraged to sing he sucks in a deep breath.. but then.. his attention is diverted to that smelly old woman. In responce, he shoves forth his tongue at her and crosses his eyes, making a goulish face. "Bet it's not as good as /my/ song!" he retorts on a 'nyah-nyah' tone, then, as if to prove it, he gets himself prepared and launches into it. Small hands position themselves as if on a loot, and he air-strums madly, the rhythm at first fast paced and *loud*, "OooooooooooooooooOOOOooo! Girls! They don't know what they want! Oh Girls! They think they're non-chalant, but theyyyyy're not! oh oh oh! Noooo theyyy're not!" And now slows, his brown eyes going wide with the importance of the verse, " Like when they giggle, thinkin' they're smart, hidin' behind their hand! But all it takes is for me to fart, and they're runnin' for higher land! You and I, we both know - all they want is their boobs to grow!" Ye gawds. Again with the hectic air-loot, his voice rising as his eyes squinch shut and he thrashes his head about, hair flopping about his face, "Oh giirrllss! How stupid! Oh girls! How droll! Mebbe we can find some use for them.. maybe send em to mine our coal! Oh oh ohhhh... " Someone might want to stop him - as several affronted stares are being sent his way by the female population. Instead of commenting, Illiyana merely steps closer to the dorm, chuckling. Casting a glance at Tirom, she offers a sympathetic smile but winces at the tune and then lack /of/ tune, in fact. Shaking her head, she murmurs, "Pity upon the ears, dear.. pity on the harper's delicate ears." At that, she leads Edris into the dorms, commenting something about -- it'll be quieter there.. The song from the tune-lacking lad draws a tremendous SCREECH and so unlady-like from the golden queen which precariously perches herself upon the tall woman's shoulder. Ouch. Rubbing her head, a swift 'go' motion is sent to the woman behind her. And out Edris flies from behind her hiding post , hair everywhere and hiding all forgotten in the moment. "Dunkan! You're such a ..such a.. -boy-" she says stomping her foot. "Now can you see why I didn't get to learn all my lessons?' she asks turning her head and looking back at Illiyana. "This is what he did every time I tried to learn. It's a wonder that I learnt anything." And there is it.. the pout that threatened before she catches the motion from the woman, and sighing. "Well that didn't work." she mutters. Tirom just grins as he listens to the younger boy's song, giggling a bit. When it's over, he says, "Just don't sing that 'round Jax." "Not at all." and Illiyana rubs at her ear, casting her slightly agitated lizard before comforting the tiny creature and then looking over to Edris and finally Dunkan. The sound, unfortunately, sent a rather large fair of lizards swirling around the courtyard. Grimacing, the young woman places fingers to her lips and then allows for a single ear piercing whistle to calm the whole horde down. They subsidein various places, from ledges to benches and anywhere else. However, she then ahems. "Well, I have to show you where the dorm is.. C'mon, Edris." Taking the girl's hand, she then puts a force in the motion and hauls the other to the dorms. Dunkan stops and catches his breath, Edris gets the biggest of grins as she complains and he points knowingly. "Hah! Knew you were around!" he states smugly, brandishing his slingshot at her. "Yer s'posed to be --hey!" He glowers as the girl follows Illiyana's instructions, disappearing from his sight. "I'm telling!" He yells after her, rocking on his tippie toes as if this might help his voice carry to her. "Yer s'posed to be home!" Tirom shakes his head quickly to Dunkan, "She's an apprentice now. Just got her knot 'fore you got here." Edris grins and nods as she is dragged inside "So now I can stay here." Her face is a picture as she disappears, so you can tell them for me.. Thanks!"
