Seacraft Little Hall

Behind the crafthall kitchen lies the smaller Family Hall a room used on an everyday level by all residents of the Hall. Not quite as formidible or as formal as the Great Hall this large open space offers a warm room for the nanny and her charges on days when the weather prevents outdoor play or for young netmenders and seamstresses to gather to work. The hearth is long and wide against the north wall and the firegrate is covered by a sliding screen that the parents of younger residents need not worry about accidents. There are hooks for kettles and cauldrons of soup above the fire and a wide toasting grate is shelved to one side.

The tables and chairs in here are mainly smaller ones for four or six people a small glowbasket set in the center of each although there are two long trestles with benches that could easily hold sixteen....and do sometimes during lessons with the Hall's Harper. Several heavy wooden gliders and rockers are pulled near the hearth warm afghans folded neatly across the backs and make a cozy spot for an afternoon gossip.

Strangely enough, Aralia is seated at one of the smaller tables, an array of brightly coloured beads and spools of thread spread out in front of her. Resting partly on her knee, and a sleeve held in her hand, is a jacket, cream in colour and currently in the stages of decoration. Looking up from the task, Lia manages to call out a, "Heyla Rhi! Come and sit with me?" from around a mouthful of pins.

Rhi frowns as she look round at the sound, and laughs. "Lia? What are you doing here?" Moving over to the rockers she places some cleaned afghans down, in preparation for the coming cooler weather, and wanders back to see what Lia is working on. "And what is that?" she questions, looking closely.

Aralia giggles softly as she holds up the jacket, light from the glows catching on the tiny beads already sewn onto one sleeve. "I'm making a jacket for S'ris." one eye slips shut in a wink, and she holds up a needle threaded with bright blue cotton, then motions towards some of the beads, "See? It's going to be -really- sparkly, I'm hoping Tuoth can talk him into wearing it." removing the pins from her mouth, her lips curve in a wide grin, "And I'm here to see if you wanna help silly."

Rhi chuckles as she sits by Lia, and lifts up the sleeve for a closer look. 'It certainly is going to be sparkly." Examining the needle work closedly she gives an approving nod before dropping the sleeve. "Course I'll help you. Carlin said that my needlework is quite good now, especially after all the practice that I've had lately." She rubs her still sore fingers together. "What do you want me to do?"

Aralia drapes the jacket over one corner of the table, leaving one half for Rhi to do, and the other for herself. "Just finish that sleeve up for me.. maybe a patch of bright yellow beads right around the cuff? That's what I'm doing here." she holds the sleeve up again, then moves it so the light catches the beads 'just so', causing a rainbow shimmer to reflect back. "The needles are here.. beads there.." starting on the back of the jacket, she smiles, "How are things with Berek?"

Rhi starts searching though and making a small pile of bright yellow beads in front of her before taking a needle and threading it. "With Berek?" She smiles widely at the name "Things are going well, I think they are anyway. And Taze certainly seems to approve." Placing a few beads on the needle the eases it thought the thick hide, and ties it off carefully at the back.

Aralia keeps her attention on the sleeve long enough to sew a line of beads down the back of the jacket, "Taze approves? Taze being.. Berek's firelizard?" eyebrows lift and Lia tilts her gaze from the jacket to Rhi a moment to giggle, "What does Asher think about all of this?" Sewing another few beads in, she next reaches for some bright blue beads, each tiny glass sphere flickering light onto the table.

Rhi peers over to the scatered beads, picks out a few rich red ones and grins "Can I make some flowers at the edge here?" She giggles and proceeds to do so without waiting for an answer. Yellow petals with a red center. Looking back to Lia she nods "Yeah, Taze is his firelizard. He's a brown, and Asher seems quite taken with him actually." She grins "I can't find her most of the time, but I know that they'll usually be together anyway."

Aralia just about lets her jaw drop to the table as Rhi beads flowers onto the sleeve. "Oh..my.." just that, and she continues to gape for a moment then bursts out laughing. "S'ris is going to *kill* me... but this is going to look amazing, Tuoth will love it." she picks out a few of the golden hued beads, starting to sewn them in wide swirls along the jacket's hem. "Taze and Asher huh? Pretty convient those two like eachother," she giggles again and winks, stabbing her finger in the process. "Yow!"

Rhi just grins and gestures to theother sleeve Make sure that you leave spaces for the flowers to match on that one too." She screws her nose up and smiles sympathetically as Lia pricks her finger "Serves you right, but it hurts doesn't it?"

Aralia makes a rather childish face at Rhi, poking her tongue out before chuckling softly. "Nah.. flowers on just one sleeve with look better, and I've already finished that sleeve." she lifts said sleeve up for inspection, then continues with the beading along the back of the jacket. "Where've you been lately anyway? I haven't seen you around much.. not near Tillek anyway."

Rhi shrugs and thinks "I can't remember the last time that I went up there." She sifts though the beads for a deep blue and threads them onto the needle, alternating the red and the blue before continuing. "Most of the spare time that I've had recently has been spent preparing for the headwomen's conference. We've nearly finished things though I think, and I'm rather pleased with how it's turned out."

Aralia quirks one brow up as she listens to Rhi, then picks up her needle, threading it with almost sheer *pink* beads and darting the sharp silver point into the wherhide. "...And..what have you finished? I didn't even know you were going to a conference. Show you how much we see each other around now."

Rhi hmms and nods 'Yeah.. Carlin and I are going to Fort to meet with all the other headwomen and assistants too." she grins "Should be a lot of fun, and we'll learn -lots- of things at the same time." She giggles as Lia takes the pink beads and shakes her head "I don't know how much S'ris is going to like this when it's finished. Does he even know about it?"

Aralia grins lop-sidedly and shakes her head, "I joked about making it.. and Tuoth seemed to think it was a good idea so I figured why not? Anyway I ended up buying some from a visiting trader and... started." she too starts to giggle, "I hope he wears it.. it's going to be -so- funny."

Rhi ties off the thread deftly on the inside and places the needle back onto the table. She hold the sleeve out to Lia for inspection. "What do you think? she turns it slightly from side to side to catch the light, and grins "He'd better wear it after all this work.

Aralia claps her hands together as those bright yellow flowers reflect the light to perfection. "Ooh yes! I can't believe I didn't think of flowers!" she snaps off the line of beads she had been working on, the back almost finished. "If he doesn't wear it.. I'll do something *really* horrible to him. Like.. drown him in the ocean!" she's joking of course, but manages to keep her expression stern.

Rhi laughs as she imagines Lia trying to drown and then hmms "Well..if you're going to do that.. Can I have the jacket?" Grinning she continues "But you have to make sure that he doesn't take it into the water with him. I'd hate all this work to be damaged.

Aralia bursts out laughing again, her cheeks flushing to a bright red until she falls out of her cheek to roll around on the ground. "Yes! You can have the jacket if he drowns.." she manages in gasps before finally the laughter subsides and she looks up with a grin, "I just wonder how I'm going to get him to wear it.."

Rhi watches as Lia falls and laughs, as much from her antics as from the comments. "I kind of like this jacket now" she says, examining their handiwork. "Maybe I should come and help you drown him?"

Well! That just makes Lia burst out laughing again.. Imagine, two skinny young girls trying to drown a big bronzerider.. with that bronze standing by and watching. "You'd only do that just so you can get the jacket!" she breathes out, then rolls onto her stomach to peer up at Rhi. "I do hope he wears it though.. just hope it -doesn't- attract the females."

Rhi pfffts and shrugs "I don't think that he needs a jacket to do that anyway." She grins 'And of course I'd only want to do that for the jacket."

Aralia giggles as she climbs back onto her chair to finish the last few beads. "Oh of -course-!" she winks, then finishes up the very last row of beading. "Done!" standing up on her chair, she holds the jacket out triumphantly.

Rhi leans back on her chair to get a better look. "That looks great!" She reaches over and tugs gently at a lose thread, before cutting it off carefully. "He'd just better appreciate the effort that was put into it. You'll have to get him to come and show me when you give it to him"

Aralia beams a smile as she drops back into to sit on the chair. "He better.. or at least Tuoth better. And if he absolutely flat out refuses.. for months, then it's yours. For helping me of course."

Rhi nods happily and laughs "Now I don't know if I want him to wear it or not. Although where I would be able to wear it around here, I -don't- know."

Aralia shrugs her shoulders up and grins. 'Who cares? I'd wear it around for no reason at all. Next gather maybe?"

Rhi grins and shrugs "Spose that I could." She rises slowly and looks towards the door before sighing. "I suppose that I'd better get back and see what else I have to do tonight."

Aralia nods with a grin as she starts to gather up her things, tossing the jacket over one shoulder. "Thanks for the help anyway.. I'll let you know how it goes."

"No problem" Rhi calls as she heads towards the door.
