Tillek Hold, Work Cavern Hamari moves along one wall of the cavern at a slow amble, overlooking the folks moving back and forth. Hamari pauses to watch a small group of people, nodding hello to any familiar faces. From between two nearby people legs they stand and talk, a small head peeks out. Immediately disappearing again, the sound of shushing and whispering and the occasional "Auntie 'Mari." can be heard, quickly followed by "..bed.. Nanny.. oh- no!" Hamari sharp ears pick up the different pitch, and she moves forward quickly. "Excuse me," gets muttered as she squeezes past faces she doesn't look at, her eyes set to a lower height. Rose sits huddled against a small pile of nets as she ponders her next move. It had all appeared so easy. Just escape while Nanny wasn't looking, down the stairs, through the cavern, and out to the big boats and freedom. Looking up she catches the view of the harper and her arms suddenly entwine in the netting, eyes widening as she starts to sniff. "I is stuck?" she asks plaintively. Hamari purses her lips to keep from laughing out loud. "Stuck are
you? Hmm, let me see... well, well, well, now what were you doing to catch
your arms in the net? Were you being like a fish?" Rose blinks and shakes her head, her knees keeping the little boat ever so close to her body., Her arms, having just been basically thrust into the netting and her being not at all 'stuck' come free remarkably easily. "I is -not- a fish. I is a boat." Fish indeed. "Did you see my boat?" She reaches over and holds her new treasure out for inspection. Hamari smiles at the small hands lovingly cradling the wee boat. "Ahh, you're NOT a fish, so that's why you weren't really very stuck, eh?" She reaches out a finger to trace the edge where the name is painted. "No, I didn't see the boat... did your Daddy make the boat for you?" Rose nods as she cuddles the boat back into her again. "For my turnday. Was my turnday, did you know?" Eyes lift with expectation. Turndays being the fun that they are. Grinning she points to the little boat and then to herself. "Now there's four Rose boats. He likes Rose boats." Hamari's own eyes widen ever so briefly. "Ahh, yes, the Turnday..." She fumbles at a pouch at her waist. "They are all very lovely Rose boats, aren't they? Did you try to sail your little Rose boat?" Rose sighs and looks wistfully out to her once easy escape exit, and the water out there, then nods sadly. "I did put her in the water, and when the wave camed , I thought that she was going to go away, and so I did splash after the wave and falled over. Then Nanny was angry. But I did only want mine boat." Hamari nods slowly, still crouched beside the little girl. She finally finds what she was looking for and hands a finger-long, smooth object to the child. "Happy Turnday, Rose. This is a small pipe, see - here's three holes on the side to make different noises." Rose rests her boat, her precious boat, against her leg as she reaches out and takes the pipe. She turns it round and round in her hands "Oooh Auntie 'Mari can it do music like you?" Eyes bright and happy, she changes the pipe into a single hand and leans over hopefully for a hug. "Thankyou. I play with you and not go to bed, alright?" Hamari winds one arm right around the small child and hugs her. "Of course it can do music. see this end with the slit, you blow here and it'll make sounds. How about you play with me while I carry you back inside?" Rose smiles at the hug, only to have the smile drop at the mention of gong back inside. "I's a big girl, not sleepy. We stay here, alright?" She shuffles over to make more room on her little net nest and lifts the pipe to her lips. This she's done a hundred times, and blows, forcefully emitting a 'screech' and almost making her drop it. "It's broked." She sniffs and holds it out out for examination. Hamari laughs quietly and shakes her head. "No, it's not broked, but you know how sometimes the boats have the sails out only halfway? Too much wind will snap them and sometimes rip them, so the sailors let them out to catch just enough wind. Your new pipe is like a sail, it needs just the right amount of wind to work, so you have to try blowing different ways just like the wind, to find out how hard it has to blow to make it work. Here, let's pick up the Rose boat and go, I can't stay out any more and I want you to come with me." Rose takes her boat in one hand and her pipe in the other and stands carefully. Trying to get the pipe to her mouth to try again, she thinks about the sails and blows a lot softer this time, causing a sound if not musical, at least not harmful to the ears of those around. "Why you can't stay an more?" Hamari heaves an exagerated sigh as moves to pick up Rose. "I get more tired than you do, I guess. I know there's some nice hot drink waiting in the Hall. Hot drinks are really nice after a sailboat ride, too. That was a good sound you just made, Rose. Think you can do it again?" "Can me have some klah?" asks the klah-starved three turn old. "'Lex does, when Nanny says no." Rose changes train of thought and goes back to the matter in hand, that pipe, and repeats her little sound. "That good too?" Hamari chuckles softly as they make their way inside. "Yes, that's good, isn't that a nice sound? You'll be able to play for us, soon." Rose follows rather slowly. "Nice sound. I play for everyone."
Still hoping to talk her way into a cup of klah, Rose picks up the pace
of her little steps and moves inside. Tillek Hold, East Hall Tillek Hold, Central Hall Hamari moves with the child in the direction of the kitchen, voices and
