Fishing in Arkansas

Fishing in Arkansas means:

Matthew 4:19 "come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men".

Welcome to our fishing page. We live in Arkansas and this page is devoted to fishing there. A lot of people seem surprised to find that Arkansas not only has trout streams, but World Record trout here. Many northerners don't realize that we have Walleye, yet the World Record Walleye was caught, yes you guessed it, here in Arkansas. This is home to the World Record Striped (Hybrid) Bass too. A lot of other fish come close to World Record Class but fall short by minimal amounts.

"give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime"

In Arkansas we are blessed with many man-made lakes, ponds, rivers and streams, all of which team with abundant and diverse fish populations. The Buffalo National River is the first river in the United States to be honored as a National River, owned and maintained by the National Park Service. From oxbow lakes and bayous in the delta to Ozark Mountain streams, most any type of fishing evironment can be found. Several B.A.S.S. tournaments have been held on the Arkansas River with great praise and success. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission manages our fishery resources. They are progressive and have an excellent and successful track record. There are public access points for excellent fishing throughout the state.

The sport of fishing can be very diverse and indivualized. Many fishermen prefer to fish live bait as opposed to artificial baits. Many people prefer to sit on a creek bank as opposed to fishing from a boat. Others will prefer to fish for a particular species such as Bass, Crappie, Trout or Catfish. There are many different approaches to fishing yet all fishermen are unified in their enjoyment of the sport. There is nothing more enjoyable than seeing a youngster catch his or her first fish. It doesn't matter whether its a World Record fish or a small common Bream. Kids love the thrill of fishing. What better way can a youngster spend his time. This page is equally devoted to encouraging youth to try fishing, and adults to teach them. Fishing provides one more positive activity for children at a time when they face a difficult world.

Our family prefers to flyfish for trout. We like to tie our own flys and use them when flyfishing. There is something special about catching a trout on a handmade fly that you tied yourself. In Arkansas there are several Trout streams with each one offering a great fishing experience. Mainly because of its proximity to home we prefer fishing the Little Red River. There are several access points where wading is easy and fish are plentiful. Areas of the river are designated catch and release only, while you are allowed to keep fish from other areas. Single barbless baits are required at catch and release areas, and Brown's are subject to length limits throughout the river. Rainbows are most abundant and come in nice sizes, but for trophy fishing, Brown's are the fish of choice. The 1st and 2nd place world record Brown's come from this river. Brown's also give the best fight. There are several commercial venders that provide boat rentals, cabins and other services.
