Joe Cool's slice of the web

Hey guys,

Click on the big "Joe Cool" up there for a new pic of me, taken in April but it's better than the other two I have on here...

Joe Cool here...YEEEEE-HAAAAAAA!!! I'm back from the most awesome 4 1/2 day trip to WDW...too short, but i loved it. We stayed at the Yacht Club in Water View room 4163, which has the most incredible view of the Epcot area than any regular guest room in the whole hotel. We were on a corner of the Yacht Club's right-hand (if you're looking out at the lake) wing, the one with the octagon tower in it. The corner windows let in a lot of light to the room...which made it seem bigger than any other WDW guest room we'd ever had.

The Yacht Club was incredible. I guess it's just my kind of resort...the grey-and-white exterior, the "double breasted with brass-buttons" decor, all that wood, and the smell: furniture polish, leather, and salt water. Ahhhhh. (puts feet up on desk) The convenience & fringe benefits were great; awesome heath club (used it three out of four mornings), good food, great coffee (the true test of a WDW resort), neat pool (you know, that *ahem* little thing they call Stormalong Bay), wish I would've used it more. One of my favorite things to do in the morning was work out in Ship Shape, then plunge in the Yacht's quiet pool for a few laps, then into the Jacuzzi (which honest to God felt like a lobster pot...it said 104 degrees, but it must've been hotter)...then I'd dry off and head across the bridge to the Boardwalk Bakery for a croissant and coffee.

By the way, the general travel shtuff went smoother than I thought. Not checking luggage was a definite plus (cramming three days worth of clothes plus all the technology i brought into one and a half suitcases, however...). Atlantis Limo, our airport transfer, was the best. Scoobey, the owner of the company, picked us up with a cool "surprise": his top-of-the-line superstretch Town Car (the look on my dad's face was priceless). I have to say I felt like a rock star in that car. Scoobey is the nicest guy; cool, personable and professional. His service has gotten loads of shining comments from people associated with the DIS (see links), and I'm now one of his loyal fans.

Now on to the *important* stuff... This is your place on the web to access any new Walt Disney World pics I post here...plus the main attraction, the all-new Beach Club floor plans and Yacht Club plans (coming Spring 2001). Basically, the idea behind these is that the YC and BC resorts are so huge, every room isn't necessarily a good one. So, I made floor plan maps to show you, the vacation planner, where everything is and where the good rooms are. As of the day this page went online, January 8, 2001, only the first two floors of the Beach Club are available.

However, the other three floors are on their way. In the meantime, you can access the other plans, updated August 25, 2000 here, but I must let you guys know that these particular plans are actually hastily edited scans of the Walt Disney Company's original Beach Club maps. Unfortunately, they stopped handing these out in 1997.

The old Yacht Club maps are online here, again in the same form as the old Beach Club plans. I'm going to link this page directly to them soon.

Thanks to everyone at the DIS for supporting the Yacht & Beach Club Q&A Forum in its earliest stages; guys, let's keep on truckin'.

Watch this place for frequent updates in the next few days.

On Aprl 11, 2001, I posted a new poll. This new one asks, "How do you think WDW should evolve its transportation?". It's no secret that the Walt Disney World brain trust is working on new transportation options to efficiently get people around the 48-square mile complex. But it comes as a surprise to some that WDW execs are beginning to feel the crunch of their own property's growth; these stoic uber-developers are nonetheless riding the wave of expansion as best they can. Just as soon as the latest 5,000+ room hotel opens, the Disney property expansions will change direction from expansion to improvement, hence the need for a new (or at least greatly updated) transportation system. Tell us what you think in the new poll. When both polls up here get enough results, I'll email them as feedback to the Walt Disney Company...who, I'm sure, is willing to consider what we, their customers have to say.

The blue poll down below asks the question, If you could add something to Disney's Yacht & Beach Club resorts, what would it be?. Choose from the list, maybe if we have enough votes I'll let Disney know of the results. They take polls like this all the time in Walt Disney World, and who knows? They renovated the Grand Floridian based on responses from guest polls...maybe the next rehab of the Yacht & Beach will be too! Enjoy!

Ciao,

JC

Our very first poll...
