Beegal presents his collection of cigarette packets and related ephemera.
Back in the mid 70`s,I was an art student at Gray`s School of Art in Aberdeen and I remember thinking that one day, cigarettes would be phased out,so I decided to collect a few examples.
Once I`d realized what a variety of different designs there were, I kept on going. The following examples were picked up on the street, found on the top floor of double-decker buses and lifted from pub tables. There were a few strange look`s but in the words of the Dan Hick`s song
"He Don`t Care".Although I am a non-smoker,I bought a few unusual packets from a now defunct shop on Market Street, which sold a huge range of tobbaco related things, catering for the men coming off the boats and oil-rigs at the nearby harbour.
I still think cigarette packets, like smoker`s,are a dying breed but enjoy looking at these long gone bits of graphic art!
