Sky of light is glowing
Upon the earth below
Everyone has gathered
Gentle love will flow

Grateful prayers are rising
Hymns of special praise
Heaven is rejoicing
As voices now will raise

Glory to the Father
Upon this special day
Gathered are His children
Joining hands to pray

Trees are softly blooming
Flowers scent the air
Bell is softly ringing
Love they now declare

Sunshine seems to glisten
Upon the stream that flows
Goodness and sweet mercy
Each child of God now knows

Blessings from the Heavens
Falling from above
Gathered in the Wildwood
Receiving all God's Love.

~Church In The Wildwood~

There's a church in the valley by the wildwood
No lovelier place in the dale
No place is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

Come to the church in the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the dale
No place is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

How sweet on a bright Sabbath morning
To listen to the clear ringing bell
It's tones so sweetly are calling
Oh, come to the church in the vale

Come to the church in the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the dale
No place is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

It was there I was told of the Savior
Who died for my sins on the tree
It was there when I prayed for my pardon
That he spoke words of comfort to me

Come to the church in the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the dale
No place is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

It's there when my heart's growing weary
I long in its shelter to be
And to rest in its sweet sacred stillness
Would bring showers of blessing to me

Come to the church in the wildwood
Oh, come to the church in the dale
No place is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale

~Description Of The Brown Church~

The Little Brown Church in the Vale
Was built by the congregation of the Puritan-Congregational Church
Who settled the town of Bradford in 1848
Construction of the church was begun in 1860
And the building, complete with bell, was finished in 1864
In order to finish the exterior of the church
The financially strapped congregation
Selected the cheapest paint available
At the time that was Ohio Mineral Paint
Which protected the wood, but was a dreary shade of brown

The Little Brown Church eventually gained fame from the song
"Church in the Wildwood", that was written by William Pitts
Pitts visited Bradford when the stagecoach he was travelling on
Stopped there to change horses
While strolling through the town
Pitt was enspired to write the song by a vacant lot
That he thought would make a beautiful location for a church
By coincedence, the Little Brown Church was built on that very site
In 1862, William Pitt was hired to teach at the Bradford Academy
When he arrived in the town
He was stunned to see a church standing on the exact spot
Where he had stood when the idea for his song hit
The church had been painted brown
Without the congregation having ever heard his song
Today, over 500 weddings take place in the church each year
And over 60,000 visitors stop to see the small brown church
And stroll among the surrounding woods

The Little Brown Church is located at
2730 Cheyenne Avenue in Nashua, Iowa

I thought this was a very interesting piece of info
So I thought I would include it on the page
