I have been a woodcarver for 13 years and until 1999 was self taught. In March of 1999 I attended the third annual woodcarvers seminar at Silver Dollar City in Branson Mo. The class that I attended was taught by Silver Dollar City resident carver Ron Wells. During this class the emphasis was on character carving and three carvings were done (see characters). In March of 2000 I attended the fourth annual woodcarvers seminar at Silver Dollar City and took a class from nationally recognized wood sculptor Jeff Phares. During this class a realistic Native American bust was carved (see Native Americans). Until October of 1999 I had never entered any woodcarving competitions. At that time I entered the competition sponsored by the Woodcarvers of Northwest Arkansas in Rogers Arkansas. I won three blue ribbons and one red.
