As you may know, the Backstreet Boys have their highest number of nominations ever for the video music awards. Their nominations are for best pop video, best group video, best video of the year, and the viewers choice award. The first three are, of course, out of our control, but the last one is all up to us. We all know that the Backstreet Boys more than deserve to win, but they're up against some pretty tough competition and they need your help. To vote,
go to the Video Music Awards homepage at vma.mtv.com,
click 'vote now', (you can ignore the pop-up),
select the circle by the Backstreet Boys at the top of the list,
and click the submit button.
It's that simple! You can vote up until the Video Music Awards at 8pm eastern/ 7pm central on Thursday, September 9th, 1999.
The Backstreet Boys previous awards and nominations came in 1998. The video for "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" won best group video against Garbage's "Push It", Matchbox 20's "3 a.m.", Radiohead's "Karma Police", and The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony". That same year, "Everybody (Backstreet's Back) was nominated for best dance video along with Janet Jackson's "Together Again", Prodigy's "Smack My B**** Up", Madonna's "Ray Of Light", and Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It", but it ended up losing to Prodigy.
Millenium is #1
The Backstreet Boys newest album, "Millenium", sold 250,000 copies during the week of August 9th, making it once again #1 on the Billboard charts.
