Little Statue

A gift freely given from the heart,

Its smiling face beaming with joy,

Little statue with arms stretched wide,

Proclaiming to the world how great its love.

An expression of great affection,

Symbolizing emotion its intent.

Gleaming bright, fresh and new,

As was the love between the two.

Placed upon the family mantel

For all to see and admire,

Little statue with arms stretched wide,

Proclaiming to the world how great its love.

Moved from its place of display,

Others symbols replace the old,

Put away for safe keeping,

Forgotten in life's fast pace.

Yellowed in time, covered in dust,

Lying in a box of old memories,

Little statue with arms stretched wide,

Proclaiming to the world how great its love.

When I neglect my love for you,

Forget how to let it show,

I try to remember a little statue,

And stretch out my arms to you.

NOTE: When I wrote this poem I had remembered a little statue I had bought years before in the mid 1970's.
I looked for the statue but was unable to find it and was unable to find a picture like it on the Internet.
As you see above I wrote this poem in August 2000. On June 28th. 2003, my family and I were going through
some boxes that had been stored for several years and my youngest son found this little statue and showed it to me.
It was the very same "LITTLE STATUE" I wrote about in the poem.
"Yellowed in time, covered in dust, lying in a box of old memories.
