There are many more elements which may be added to a website, just kinda depends on what you wish for your site to provide the viewer.
The internet is a contact and communication device. It has limitations in that any given site is difficult to find - unless - promoted ! Promotion must follow all of the established advertising media outlets ( print - mail - handouts - cards - brochures - and so on ) the odds of your site being found by a random search of someone in the world is based upon your placement with the 'search engines'.
Search engines are the 'want ads' of the internet and just as newspapers they charge for placement, unless you have a not for profit site - my own site A Complete Manual of Videotaping and Editing Techniques is an example of the type site which can recieve free placement.
