Where's the Turkey?!

This was a Thanksgiving that
we will never forget!! "S"

I was watching a Talk Show in 1991, where a girl had delivered a baby and kept her pregnancy a secret from her family and friends. The girl lived at home with her parents.

The argument on the show was directed toward her parents saying they had to have known. The show was a little rough toward the parents of this girl. I can't remember what happened to the baby.

At this time, I was pregnant with my 7th.child, and had not announced the pregnancy to my family.

A few days later, one of my married daughter's stopped by my house to give me the news that she would be giving birth to her 1st. child the 1st.of January 1992.

She ask if she and her husband could move into our house toward the end of her pregnancy, so that she would have help with her firstborn. I agreed to allow the move, but still not announcing my pregnancy.

After thinking some more about the Talk Show, and the fact that I was about to give birth just a few weeks before my grandchild would be born, I decided to see if I could prove the Talk Show wrong, and have some fun at the same time.

I was a little worried because the girl on the Talk Show weighed 200 plus compared to my 120 pounds, making me think that my pregnancy would be harder to hide.

By October, my pregnant daughter and her husband moved into our house. At 8 months, I decided I should tell someone because I needed to make arrangements for a babysitter and a ride to the hospital in case my husband was at work when the time came.

I decided to include my pregnant daughter in on my secret. Until this time, my husband was the only person that knew.

My oldest son, (then 23) my disabled sister, my daughter and her husband, and 3 of my youngest children (then ages 3,7,14) were living in my house. My other daughter and her husband lived a few blocks away.

I had company everyday, and had to play sick alot the last few weeks of the pregancy. I cooked alot at night, would sing, dance, and laugh after everyone was in bed.

And would even do a little 2 a.m.shopping. I would drive my children to and from school everyday. My husband and I both had brothers and sisters, grown nieces and nephews living all around us that visited my home on a regular basis.

Man...at my bathroom habits! I would need to wee-wee really bad with a room full of company, but no-no, I didn't dare get up! I wagged a blanket around with me, complaining about how cold I thought our house was. Good thing, it was now the end of November.

The daughter that I had shared my secret with, helped me to make last minute arrangements. Toward the last couple of weeks of this long, drawn out secret...I could tell that one of my children at home was feeling neglected. I had to tell her my secret to make her feel better about my neglect.

Wow-Wee...at the fun she was about to have! My husband and I are both from large families, all living close to each other.

Thanksgiving has always been our biggest holiday for gathering all of the family members together for a big dinner.

The afternoon of the 27th.of November, I was about to start preparing the Turkey and Dressing for the Thanksgiving dinner for the following day.(of course I am cooking as usual, but will stay home and play sick)

I am 9 months pregnant now,so I won't be attending the dinner.

Just as the family started getting ready for bed...and I was about to slip off into the kitchen-I felt pain! Uh-Oh, I may not have to cook or play sick!

A little past midnight, I was on my way to the hospital. A 7 pound Turkey was born on Thanksgiving! The phone calls were made from the hospital to tell my secret to all of my family and friends.

One of my married daughter's thought she was dreaming, stood up and pinched herself to see if she was awake! She called the hospital to see if her sister had given birth, and was not given information over the phone. She had to drive to see who had just had a baby. This daughter had visited my house several times each week throughout the pregnancy, so I gave this baby her middle name, since I was able to keep the secret from her for 9 months.I felt I owed her that much!

When the call was made to my house to announce the birth, my son replied by saying someone was confused...it must have been his sister to give birth because I am too old to have a newborn sister!

My son-in-law that was living there was drinking hot chocolate when the secret was revealed. Guess what happened to his hot cocoa!

When the call was made to one of my sister's, her 1st. question was...Today is Thanksgiving, where is the Turkey and dressing? My daughter replied..."Aunt Barb.I don't know about the dressing but the Turkey is at the hospital in an incubater!" I could continue on with these calls and comments, but I guess enough is enough.

On January 1,1992...my grandson was the 1st.baby born on New Year's Day in our city. Now my Turkey and my New Year's grandson attend the same school. They were in the same Kindergarden class, and now are in the same 1st.grade, and are both honor students. They also played on the same T-Ball team.(update-they are now 10 years old)

~I guess I should have called that Talk Show!~

My secret was not just kept from a few people, like the girl on the talk show. I kept that secret from dozens and dozens of family members and friends!

NEVER SAY IT CAN'T BE DONE...BECAUSE I DID IT!!!

~Still think I might call that Talk Show!~

(Everytime we eat Turkey or chicken and dressing, Crystal ask if it is her Birthday!)

DO YOU THINK I SHOULD CALL THE TALK SHOW?

The Redhead at this table
is Crystal!
