Taekwondo Reference Site

Face the front! Attention! Bow! Welcome to the Taekwondo Reference Site. Here you can find whatever information you may need to further your education in the Korean martial art known as Choong-Sil Taekwondo. This site is affiliated with the United States Taekwondo Federation (USTF).

History and Philosophy

Founded in 1981, the USTF is a traditional Taekwon-Do organization based on values and progressive ideals. Headquartered in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the goal of the USTF is "To provide the best Taekwon-Do training and support for its member Black Belt Instructors." In the beginning, the USTF was a strong regional organization with a close knit "family" approach to supporting its members. As time passed, the systematic approach to training Instructors how to teach has worked very well for the USTF with over 100 schools to date and continued growth since its beginning more than fifteen years ago. The USTF is developing a national network of traditional Taekwon-Do instructors that are interested in being involved with a high quality organization to maintain the quality of this art for the next generation.

The Taekwon-Do system practiced by the USTF is known as Choong-Sil. In the beginning of Taekwon-Do, there were many different schools or gyms (kwans). Recent history shown that due to philosophical differences, it has also become necessary to identify our approach toward training, the use of a term which best describes the uniqueness of the USTF's method of Taekwondo.

The purpose of Choong Sil Kwon Taekwon-Do is to develop an individual's mental and physical well-being through a highly stylized and deliberate method of rigorous martial art training. The result of this training is the empowering sense of self-worth and the ability to control one's physical state and personal destiny. The student is guided into four stages of philosophical development: Imagination, Inspiration, Actualization, and Realization.
