"A History of Excellence" The History of United Voices article by Andrew Daley
The United Voices Gospel Choir of Arkansas State University has a long history of excellence. In 1969 a choir was formed, known as the
Black Student Association Choir and was operating under the sponsorship of the B.S.A. In 1973 the B.S.A. choir made a name change to The United Voices Gospel Choir They became an independent organization along side the B.S.A. The United Voices was under the management and Leadership of Mc Kinley Arnold. They served as a social, spiritual, cultural, and political outlet for students at A.S.U. The United Voices have set a goal to be ambassadors for Christ and A.S.U. and to minister to the spiritual needs of the students and faculty here at A.S.U. Not only that but to minister to our city, state, country, and soon to be "THE WORLD"
Over the Last 30 years many individuals have become part of the U.V. Family.God has made provision for United Voices to work with many great artists. The choir worked with O'landa Draper Kirk Franklin Yolanda Adams David Curry of Mississippi Mass Choir The United Voices Gospel Choir has also been able to perform for people such as President Bill Clinton C.O.G.I.C. Convocation Elder Willie James Campbell of Chicago Il. Bishop Sheard of Detroit MI. Bishop Earl J. Wright of Detroit MI.
The choir spent two years (99-00) under the leadership of
Bro.Cameron Ross. During this time God prepared the older members to be examples and standard bearers for the multitudes. Cameron Ross was like a Joshua and he was used mightly of God tho help bring The United voices into the promised land. Not only was Cameron an excellent leader but he is a magnificent saxaphone player. Cameron D. Ross graduated in the spring of 2000 and married that following summer. He know resides in Blytheville as the band director for West Jr. High School. In the spring semester of 2000 Brother Christopher L. Conway was elected as the president of the United Voices. Chris has the excellent ability to follow as well as lead. We are expecting many wonderful things to be accomplished this semester. No matter what changes are made there is one factor that will remain the same for the United Voices and that is faith in God.
