Have you ever felt like you are not important? Well, that is how Saint Margaret Mary felt. She compared herself as being a "tiny atom" compared to Christ. Saint Margaret Mary was a French nun, born in Lauthecort. She was once a victim of paralysis and she attributed her recovery to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She entered the Convent at Paray-le-Monial in 1671. Saint Margaret Mary had various visions of Christ in which he revealed to her his compassionate bleeding heart. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is taken as the symbol the compassion and love of Christ for humankind. The practice of devotion originated in the 11th century as a private devotion. In the 17th century this ritual became public after Saint Margaret Mary had a vision of Christ in which he asked that his heart be thus honored. The Friday following the second Sunday of Pentecost is the feast day of the Sacred Heart. Saint Margaret Mary was beatified in 1864 and canonized in 1920. Her feast day is October 17.
