YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO ATTEND A 10:30 a.m. "The Case for the Existence of God"
We have recently decided to enhance our fellowship activities. In 2006, we are planning to
have fellow lunches on the following dates:
Mill Creek also works with the West Side church of Christ on the Lads to
Leaders/Leaderettes youth program.
With Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes, Mill Creek provides a forum or practicing place on the
first Sunday night of each month for young men particularly who wish to practice leading
singing, giving a talk, or reading a Bible scripture. We have in the past also had
simultaneous women-only services so that the girls can have similar opportunities to hone
leadership skills for those occasions in which their leadership will be needed.
Mill Creek has joined hands with area congregations in helping to provide a preacher for the
mission work at the Pope County jail. We have also provided World Bible School materials
for the inmates. Over 350 inmates have been baptized, and over 600 have been restored, in
the six years that this program has been in existence.
Several people of the church have been active in the World Bible School program which
teaches the Gospel to people in foreign lands. Of particular interest has been the work in
Nigeria. The total number of students taught through the mail by Sybil Lloyd, Bill and
Becky Ware, Edwin and Joyce Shinn, Ted Shinn, and others of the congregation, easily exceeds
ten thousand.
How to get to the Mill Creek church building. The Mill Creek Church
of Christ is located about seven miles west of Russellville, Arkansas, just off Interstate
40. The building where we worship can best be reached by taking the London exit (I-40 exit
74)and then Arkansas 333 .3 miles south into the small town of London. At the T ofArkansas
333 and U. S. 64, turn left (east) and continue eastward 2.8 miles until reaching Mill Creek
Road. Turn right (north) on Mill Creek road and go under the I-40 bridges spanning Mill
Creek and continue around the bend of the reservoir for .8 miles. The Mill Creek church
building is a white frame building on the right as you begin going up the hill. Ministers and congregation. The Mill Creek Church of Christ is served
by two ministers: Brother Sid Womack, deacon from the West Side Church of Christ in
Russellville, and Brother Jack Barber, also a deacon for West Side. Each minister preaches
about half of the Sundays of the month. Mill Creek members conduct their Wednesday night
services.
What to expect.Beliefs are conventional for Churches of Christ.
Scripture is taken as the final if not only proof for all things. Sermons and classes areare
heavily scripture-based and effort is made to find a "Thus saith the Lord" for all
decisions. The fact that song services are done a cappella or "with voices" and
without instruments, following the pattern of New Testament worship, is further indicative
of our desire to speak where the Bible speaks, and be silent where the Bible is
silent. Sunday School is at 10: 00 A. M. and the corporate worship service begins at
about 10: 55. Sunday night services are at 4: 00 during the winter and summer to coordinate
with activities at West Side.
Core beliefs. We believe that a person becomes a Christian when in
faith he repents of his life of sin, confesses Jesus as Lord, and is baptized for the
remission of his sins (Acts 16: 31; Mark 16: 16; Matthew 28: 19, 20; Acts 2: 37-47; I Peter
3: 21). Given the teachings of Acts 2: 41 and 47, by our studies we find that those who
obey the Gospel and become Christians are automatically added to the church of Christ; no
separate action need be taken, and can be taken, to add one to a church. No one votes a
person into the church which Christ bought with his own life (Ephesians 5: 25-31). We find
in the scriptures that once one becomes a Christian, he is cleansed continually while
walking in the light ( I John 1: 7 - 2: 5). Being saved is not an "in, now back out, now
back in" kind of thing as the Christian is forgiven, then occasionally sins, then is
forgiven. But there could be a point at which the Christian is no longer walking in the
light but has fallen back into sin (II Peter the whole second chapter) and could be lost.
When the Christian commits a sin, he should repent and pray (Acts 8:22) for forgiveness.
We find that Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people (see the teachings of Matthew
the 25th chapter) and that judgement will be without warning and will be swift and
unavoidable (II Peter 3: 8-13). We lead careful lives in view of these teachings. Assistance.
It may be that we of the Mill Creek Church of Christ could be of help in praying for someone
or in teaching someone. If we can be of help to you, please write
