Simon J and Nancy M Pyeatt Weickel

Nancy Matilda Pyeatt was born Jan 1874 in Missouri to William and Dianna Pyatt and died in 1945 (probably in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma). Nancy is buried in the Rose Hill Memorial Park in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma.

To our knowledge, she was the tenth child born to this couple. We find her with her parents on the 1880 Jefferson County, MO (Plattin Township) census and on the 1900 Ripley County, MO, census.

On the 1880 census she was six years old. On the 1900 census Nancy was 26 years old (born Jan 1874).

Around 1909, Nancy married Simon J Weickel. Simon was born c1859 (or 1858) in Pennsylvania (or Michigan). He claimed his parents were born in Pennsylvania (or perhaps his mother in Michigan). We know nothing else about Simon except that he died before 1924.

Nancy and Simon had the following known children:

The Weickel and Pyeatts lived in Perry Township, St Francois County, Missouri, on the 1910 census as follows:

  • Weickel, Simon J age 51 born PA / married 1 year / father/mother born PA
  • Weickel, Nancy M (wife) age 37 born MO / married 1 year / father/mother born MO / 1 child/1 living
  • Weickel, Vergie J (daughter) age 10/12 born MO / single / father born PA/mother born MO
  • Pyeatt, William D (father-in-law) age 79 born MO / married 54 years / father/mother born MO
  • Pyeatt, Dinah (mother-in-law) age 73 born MS / married 54 years / father born MS/mother born SC (This family enumerated #510/535; ancestry image 53/62 ED)

After Nancy's father died, Diana appears to continue to live with Nancy and family. They appeared as follows on the in District 203, Trumann, Poinsett County, Arkansas:

I don't know of any connection to Trumann, Arkansas, so I have to wonder if Simon's job took them there.

The next time that we find Nancy is in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1924/1925 she was listed as "Weickel, Nancy (widow of Simon J)" and lived at 410 W Brady. Also, in 1924/1925 her mother "Pyeatt, Diana (widow of Wm D) 410 W Brady (in the rear)" lived in an adjoining apartment. Of interest are the following occupants of that same address in previous years. 1923 "Pyeatt, Orville 410 W Brady" and "Pyeatt, Simon 410 W Brady". By 1925, Orville Pyeatt had moved to 1105 W Brady. We know that Simon and Orville are names of two grandchildren of William and Diana and, therefore, nephews of Nancy. By 1926, Nancy is listed in the City Directory at 118 N Elmwood. However, at the time of Diana's death, in June of 1928, Nancy was at 316 W Cameron in Tulsa. Nancy disappears from the city directory in 1941. Click here for further Directory Listings.

Other names which appear with Nancy on the Tulsa city directories include: Virgie I; Alice A; and Frances K. I believe Francis was the first wife of James E Weickel, Nancy's son, due to their city directory listing. The only other instance of this unusual surname that I find is in the Tulsa World, June 3, 1997 marriages: Jennifer Weikel age 23 and Daniel Kasinger age 23 of Jenks.

I found Nancy and family in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma, on the 1930 census as follows:

This family was enumerated #316/11/26 W Cameron sheet 1B Blk 32 (original townsite) 2 Apr 1930 (Ancestry.com image 2/19); at #316/11/24 were Dave and Ruby Steel and at #316/11/25 was Gertrude Taylor.
