Soon after his father died, William married Clarinda Marquiss in Macon County, Illinois, on April 10, 1838. Their bond was for 'William H Piatt' and 'Clerinda Marquiss'. Clarinda was born in 1819 in Pickaway County, Ohio, to Abraham and Elizabeth Barnes Marquiss.
