Mary Piatt was born March 9, 1802 in Virginia and died March 16, 1891 in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. She is thought to be the daughter of Amos and Susannah Hawkins Piatt who were from Virginia and who later moved to Muskingum County, Ohio.
She was married in Perry County, Ohio, December 16, 1819, to Abraham Chapman Josselyn (also indexed under Joslin).
On November 22, 1821, Mary Joslin (formerly Piatt) was disowned from the Society of Friends (Quakers) for a 'marriage contrary to discipline' (ie. outside the faith) according to the Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy Vol 4, Ohio, p 339, 347).

This family enumerated #242/242. Living nearby was their son, Amos P Josselyn, and the William Brooks family which included Mary's mother, Susan Piatt. In Jefferson township was James Piatt and in Zanesville Township was George Pyett.
By the 1880 census of Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio, Abraham had died and Mary and family appeared as follows:
Josselyn, Mary age 78 / white / female / widow / Keeps House / born OH / father/mother born VA
Josselyn, Virginia (daughter) age 27 / white / female / single / born OH

Apparently the child 'E Nancy' should be 'E. Nelson' (Edwin Nelson Josselyn, born 1840/1841). He is listed as a male. Also in Zanesville was the widow, Sarah Pyatt and family.
