John Piatt was born to Jacob and Elizabeth Woliver Piatt (some researchers have Wolober or Wolinez as the maiden name) on July 17, 1838 (or 1837) in Montgomery County, Ohio, and died March 15, 1916 (or March 14, 1916). He married first by Rev Jacob Miller on May 17, 1863, Mary Elizabeth Puterbaugh (d/o Abraham and Catherine ? Puterbaugh) who was born c1847 in Ohio and who died December 27, 1906 in Darke County, Ohio. John and Mary are both buried in the Green Mound Cemetery, (sometimes called New Madison Cemetery), Harrison Township, Ohio.
John and Rebecca Piatt (parents of Jacob) were in Montgomery County, Ohio by the 1820 census. Their older children having been born in Rockingham County, Virginia. John's link to earlier Piatts is not known at this time.
