James and Mary Donahue Piatt of Virginia/Ohio

James Piatt was born c1786 in Virginia. He married Mary Donahue/Donaho August 1, 1805, at New Providence Presbyterian Church in Rockbridge Co, Virginia. Bondsmen were James Peatt and Jno Donaghoe alias Jno W Donaugh. They posted the marriage bond on July 17, 1805.

James and Mary moved from Virginia to Delaware Co, Ohio; Bartholomew County, Indiana; Jasper County, Indiana; and, finally, Clinton County, Indiana.

At least the first seven children on this list are further corroborated by the statement in "History of Delaware County, Ohio" by O L Baskins & Co, 1880, which states that William S Piatt was the seventh child of James and Mary Donahoe Piatt.

A revealing census record is this (approximate birth years added) is 1860 Jasper Co, (Gillam Twp/Francesville-Medaryville PO) Indiana pg 98:

This shows James and Mary Donahue Piatt living with son Phillip H Piatt, his wife Lovina Galbreath, and the children of the younger couple. Neighbors were Goldbreath and Pierson.

James Piatt was a veteran of the War of 1812 and received a pension for his service. The parents of James Piatt have not yet been established nor his birthplace, other than New Jersey.
