John S and Mary C Snider Pyatt

John S Pyatt was born June 16, 1842, in Nicholas County, West Virginia, to William and Mary Smith Pyatt and died of pneumonia on February 13, 1896, in Cuba. He was buried in the Mt Hope Cemetery, Trace Ferry, Jackson County, West Virginia. He was married September 18, 1864, in Mason County, West Virginia to Mary C Snider (aka Margaret Catherine Snyder) born May 1, 1845, in Jackson County, West Virginia to Thomas and Elizabeth Buttler Snider. Mary Pyatt died October 11, 1929, in Trace Fork, Jackson County, West Viriginia, and is also buried in the Mt Hope Cemetery.

Of note is that there was another John Piatt (of Ohio) who lived at the same time in Jackson County, West Virginia who was married to Mary Truax. They are also buried in the Mt Home Cemetery as is Elizabeth Buttler Snyder who might have been the daughter of Levi Buttler of Roane County.

The marriage record of John and Mary in Mason Co, West Virginia reads as follows:
"John S Peyatt, aged 24 years 3 months, born Nicholas Co VA, farmer, son of William & Mary, to Mary C Snider, age 18, born Jackson Co WV, daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth, at the home of Thomas Snyder, by Isaac E Smith, 18 Sep 1864 on license dated 16 Sep 1864. (Book 3:19, p 196)

After John Pyatt's death in 1896, his widow and her sons built a log house where she raised all the children by herself, according to family tradition.
