Joseph and Jean Brooks Pyatt

Joseph Pyatt was born in 1790 to Joseph and Sarah Jane Still Pyatt and died in 1864. On January 29, 1818, in Burke County, North Carolina, he married Jean Brooks who was born in 1799 and died in 1878. Their marriage bond was between 'Joseph Pyett' and 'Jean Brooks' and was signed by 'Joseph Pyat', his father.

Joseph and Jean had the following known children:

The census for Burke County, NC, for 1820 shows Joseph Pyatt, Jr. married with no children.

He appears on the 1840 census of Yancey County, North Carolina:

My interpretation: The male 5-10 would be Eleazer; the male 10-15 would be Leander; the male 50-60 is Joseph; one female under 5 would be Rachel and the other Elmira; the two females age 5 to 20 could be other daughters or just females in their household; the female 40-50 is Jean.

There is a Joseph Pyatt listed in the index to the 1850 census of Yancey County, North Carolina. However, I do not have the abstract. He was enumerated on pg 418 while his son, Leander Pyatte, was on pg 419.

He is probably the Joseph Pyatt indexed on pg 915 in Yellow Mountain, Yancey County, North Carolina on the 1860 census.
