Elijah married second on August 12, 1873, in Nicholas County, West Virginia, Sarah J Schoonover.
Elijah and Sarah had the following known children:

- Sarah Pyatt b: 6 Apr 1882
- Newman Pyatt b: 28 May 1885
- Albert M Pyatt b: 7 Jun 1888 m: 13 Nov 1839 Nicholas Co, VA, Mary Ann Woods (or Worth) (d/o William Woods/Worth and Sarah Ann Taylor) b: 1827

- Peatt, Mary age 25 born VA / F
- Peatt, John age 1 born VA / M
This family was enumerated #469/469 2 Sep 1850 pg 375B. Also living nearby were his brothers: Alexander Peatt, age 10 living with the John Foster family at #225 and George Peatt, age 15 living with the John Kyle family at #270 and his mother, Mary 'Margaret', with her remaining unmarried children at #573.
By the 1860 census of Nicholas County, Virginia, they appear as follows:
- Peyatte, Elijah age 42 born VA / M / Farmer / $300/$100 / Cannot read or write
- Peyatte, Mary (wife) age 28 born VA / F
- Peyatte, John W age 12 born VA / M
- Peyatte, William F age 3 born VA / M
This family was enumerated #544/405 7 Jul 1860 pg 978B. Elijah's brothers, William and John Peyatte, ages 31 and 19 are living at #997 pg 102B with the James Koonze family. It would appear that his mother has either died or moved elsewhere.
