Clara Peyatt and Arthur Smith

Clara Peyatt was born December 28, 1901, (or 1903) in Springfield, Jackson County, Ohio, to Grant and Margaret Lore/Lohr Peyatt and died March 21, 1990, in The Plains, Ohio. She is buried in the Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield, Athens County, Ohio.

Clara was married first April 5, 1923, to William McKinley Lock who was the son of William James Lock and Mary Johnson. She was married second to Arthur Smith.

Clara Peyatt Smith, 88, formerly of Millfield, died Wednesday evening at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens after a brief illness. Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Grant and Maggie Lohr Peyatt. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Shirley Smith of Columbus, and Arthur (Buster) and Glennis Smith; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Mildred) McManaway of Glouster; Mrs Andy (Evelyn) Noglak of Cleveland; and Mrs. John (Franciska) Rego of Georgia; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Hershel; three brothers, Thomas and William Peyatt, who were killed in the Millfield Mine Disaster and Worth (Mutt) Peyatt. Services will be 1 PM Sunday at Cardaras Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Seevers officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
