Chapter 1
Jiggy's One Lucky Guy
"Oh no!" the boy shouted. He was 10, and it was the time of year where
10 year old children went to get their first Pokémon. And, he had been
watching episodes of Pokémon that he had missed. He had gotten so caught up in
watching someone else's adventures that he had forgotten about his own!
He dashed toward Professor Oak's house.
"So, care to explain why you're THIS late?!" demanded Professor Oak.
Jiggy looked down at the ground and mumbled, "Um, well..."
Professor Oak sighed. "And I thought Ash was late!"
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay." Professor Oak shook his head. "We'll just have to catch a Pokémon for you."
"You mean... you're all out?"
"I'm afraid so."
Professor Oak paused. "Well, to tell you the truth, I haven't been out of Pallet Town in a long time. Where would you like to go?" He showed the young boy a map of the area. "We can also try out the custom Poké Ball I had Ash deliver to me."
"Hmm... how about Mt. Moon? I like the name. It sounds sort of romantic."
"Curious. You're the only boy who's chosen Mt. Moon. Well then, let's go."
And so, with Professor Oak at his side, Jiggy set off for Mt. Moon. On the way, Professor Oak gave the boy his Pokédex and Poké Balls and instructed him on how to use them.
"Hey, just one question," began Jiggy. "If we find a wild Pokémon and it attacks us, how many Pokémon do you have to protect us?"
"Right now? I gave the rest of my Pokémon away."
Jiggy fell over.
However, the trip went smoothly, and no Pokémon attacked them. Finally, they arrived at Mt. Moon.
"So, when we find a Pokémon, do you want to throw the Poké Ball or do you want to watch how it's done first?" asked Professor Oak.
"Huh? I've seen how it's done all the time on TV!" responded Jiggy.
Professor Oak smiled nervously. "Oh, of course." He handed Jiggy a purple Poké Ball. "This is a Master Ball. As long as you don't miss the Pokémon, it's guaranteed to catch them."
Jiggy paused. "I do have a bad arm, you know..."
"Well, you should be okay." The two of them walked around the mountain range for a few days and finally spotted a Clefairy. "Oh, we're very lucky!" said Professor Oak.
"Clefairy are some of the rarest Pokémon in existence!"
"Alright!" said Jiggy. "A Clefairy! Personally, I was hoping for a Jigglypuff, but hey, Clefairy's cool."
"Go right ahead."
Jiggy nodded with eager anticipation. The joy of that first Pokémon catch! The exhilaration of throwing that Poké Ball for the first time! "Master Ball, go!" shouted Jiggy, throwing it at the Clefairy. Clefairy didn't even know that the Master Ball had been thrown at her until she saw it sitting on the ground right next to her. Jiggy fell over.
"Wow, you do have a bad arm," commented Professor Oak.
"Grr!" growled Jiggy. He went and picked up the Master Ball. "Okay, this time, you're mine, Clefairy! Master Ball, go!" He threw it again.
Clefairy had taken a step to the right and wasn't caught. She smirked at Jiggy.
"Oh, give me that thing!" said Professor Oak, impatient. "You can't do a thing!" He picked up the Master Ball, threw it at the Clefairy, and caught her. Jiggy fell over.
"How'd you do that?!" demanded Jiggy. "I threw it just like they always do on the show!"
"Well, yes, but then again, no TV show can afford a Master Ball. They're too expensive and right now, it's actually just a prototype."
"Oh," said Jiggy, although he didn't know what a prototype was yet. "So, if they're so expensive, why are you giving me one?"
Professor Oak was surprised. "What? I was just going to show you something." He took one of Jiggy's Poké Balls, placed the Master Ball next to it, and pressed the buttons simultaneously. "There. I have just transferred your Clefairy into the Poké Ball. Now the Master Ball can be used again, some other time." He paused. "Return with me to Pallet Town, and you can start your journey from there."
Jiggy nodded, and they headed back for Pallet Town.
Jiggy and Professor Oak were finally off of Mt. Moon. They had gotten lost quite a few times, thanks to Jiggy's "incredible" trailblazing.
"Well, that's that," said Jiggy. "Back to Pallet."
However, along the way, they soon spotted a Jigglypuff. Luckily, she hadn't noticed them. "Look at that!" whispered Jiggy quietly. He pulled out his Pokédex.
"We're lucky indeed!" said Professor Oak. "Jigglypuffs and Clefairy are two of the rarest Pokémon, and we've seen both of them within three days!"
"Jigglypuff," introduced the Pokédex. "A balloon Pokémon. Jigglypuffs are known to sing anyone around to sleep. However, most Jigglypuffs do not know that their singing is intended to put surrounding people and Pokémon to sleep. When angered, a Jigglypuff can inflate itself. The largest Jigglypuff recorded had inflated herself to five times her normal size."
"Wow," breathed Jiggy. "Five times her size... I didn't even know that and I've always loved Jigglypuffs. I gotta catch that Jigglypuff!" Jiggy looked at Clefairy, standing next to him. "Clefairy, go!" The Jigglypuff looked at the Clefairy and began to snicker. Soon she was rolling over with laughter. Jiggy frowned. "Come on, Clefairy, show that Jigglypuff that you're just as good as she is!"
Clefairy nodded. "Clefairy!"
Another Jigglypuff came out of the bushes, to protect the one that was rolling with laughter. Jiggy guessed that the Jigglypuffs were friends.
"Clefairy, Pound!" Clefairy hit the Jigglypuff that was standing up as the other Jigglypuff was still rolling around laughing. The fighting Jigglypuff pulled back and delivered a Pound of her own to Clefairy. Clefairy Growled at the Jigglypuff. Clefairy was mad and knocked out the Jigglypuff with Pound a few more times after nailing her.
"Alright!" shouted Jiggy. "Poké Ball, go!" He threw the Poké Ball at the Jigglypuff, but missed and hit the laughing Jigglypuff, who came out within seconds.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing?!" demanded the Jigglypuff, no longer amused.
Jiggy blinked. "Jigglypuffs can talk?" he asked, turning to Professor Oak. However, Professor Oak was at a loss for words.
"A... a TALKING J... TALKING Jiggly... Jigglypuff," he stammered. Jiggy sighed. "I didn't mean to offend you or anything, Jigglypuff!" he said in apology. "I love Jigglypuffs! I just wanted to catch you so that you'd always be by my side," he explained.
"Did it ever occur to you, Mr. Think-before-you-act, to ASK me if I'd follow you?"
"Um... well... no."
"You're so thickheaded! How do you expect anyone to listen to you when you let your body do your thinking?"
Jiggy felt like he had shrunk. At the very least, the Jigglypuff was really cutting him down to size. "Um, well, would you give me the honor of joining me on my Pokémon journey?"
"You call it a Pokémon journey. You think the whole point is to go on and try and catch every single Pokémon there is, don't you?"
"Well..."
"Well, let me tell you, you're not going to catch every Pokémon out there in your lifetime! There are a lot more than are listed by encyclopedias and your Pokédex."
Jiggy couldn't think of anything to say.
"You go out there and you catch the Pokémon. Then you give the ones that you don't care about to that old coot standing next to you. You just abandon them. You never know them and they never know you."
"That's..."
"Stupid, isn't it? That's stupid, now that you think about it. Never thought about it, did you?"
"No, what..."
"Look at that! You didn't even deny it. Pathetic." She turned her back and attended to her fallen friend.
Clefairy returned to Jiggy's side. "What I was going to say, Jigglypuff," began Jiggy, "was that I don't intend to catch all sorts of Pokémon. I'm going to catch only six and I'm going to make good friends out of all of them."
Jigglypuff turned around. "Okay, so maybe not everything I said was right about you. But tell me, why should I go with you? You hurt my friend here."
No words came to Jiggy, until finally he said, "You're right. I'm sorry that I hurt your friend. I'm sure she'll be okay."
The Jigglypuff glanced curiously at Jiggy. "There's something different about you..."
Jiggy shrugged. "Nothing different here. Just another Pokémon trainer who's too caught up in his own dreams to think about the Pokémon."
"Most others didn't realize that even after I'd told them."
"Well, whatever. I'll leave you alone now." He turned to leave and dragged Professor Oak, still stammering about talking Jigglypuffs, with him, as Clefairy followed behind.
"Wait..." said Jigglypuff. "I'd like to follow you for a while. I want to see what it is that makes a trainer like you. There must be something about your surroundings, something that made you who you are. I want to see what it is... If I can do that, maybe I can find more trainers who feel the same way. Besides, Jigglypuff's okay now. So, what's your name?"
"Jiggy. Glad to have you aboard, Jigglypuff and Jigglypuff! I'm sure we'll have lots of fun together!" He hugged the Jigglypuffs and then hugged his Clefairy. "I love you guys..."
"Hey, let go!" said the talking Jigglypuff. "By the way, call me Jiggly, just so you don't get confused between the two of us," she added, pointing to the other Jigglypuff.
"Jigglypuff!" said the Jigglypuff, extending her hand to shake with Clefairy.
Clefairy smiled. "Clefairy," she said, shaking Jigglypuff's hand.
"Jiggy, you're one lucky guy," said Jiggly.
Jiggy, Jiggly, Jigglypuff, Clefairy, and Professor Oak set off, bound for Pallet Town.
