UPDATES: So it's been a little quiet at Valhalla in August. Well, it's now September and we've got loads in store!! Lost in Transit a-cappella group will entertain us on 18 Sep. Then watch out for the ALL GAL GIG happening on 25 Sep.

Also, thank you thank you to all artistes who performed last month!! OK, ok, there weren't 10 bands but there were more than 10 artistes!!! Some cancelled on us at the last minute, some had to work. Those who turned up last week, thank you once again for supporting Valhalla and making it OUR SPACE. Those who couldn't make it, come back. We want to hear your voices!! Take care, crew and we can't wait to hear the live recording - made possible by SuperBar boys and friends.

MORE UPDATES: We've already started planning for the next big OPEN MIC event in October. Looking for bands....solo singers....register with us now! Oh! Btw, we've been contacted by private organisations to feature Valhalla artistes for paid events. So it looks like Valhalla is moving from an Open Mic event to becoming "agents". We negotiate rates for our artistes who've performed at Valhalla and are trying to set an industry standard. So guess we're achieving our vision...that artistes who start out at Valhalla with only passion for music in their pockets will eventually walk away with paid sessions!

Valhalla Markets last week featured Caroline with some jewellery and beads (I bought some!!), then there was Leonard and Muna with their super cool second-hand goodies - baju, original CDs etc. Why not make some money and bring some of your old gear? Just turn up. We'll help display your stuff for ya.

::: Valhalla Open Mic is a music promotion initiative started by spin sista - DJ Beryl and Jazz to add to the many other warm & fuzzy things to do in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursdays. The name Valhalla is inspired from the Nordic term for Heaven. Armed with their passion for music and the desire to create a safe space for indie talents to jam, the duo got a few friends together and kickstarted the very first “Open Mic” in April 2003 with appearances by Syko G (DJ) and G-Man (Malaysia’s talented 12-string guitarist). Since then, Valhalla Open Mic has attracted musicians of all genres – from rock to pop, rap to soul. Even stand-up comics. Please pass the word around and help us create more awareness about the concept of Valhalla Open Mic - A Space for Musicians, Music Lovers and their buddies.

::: Valhalla Open Mic is built on the theme “Explore, Experience and Expand” - a theme, which we feel embraces and encourages talents from all walks of life to share their passion for music live on stage! Whether an aspiring DJ, musician, comedian, singer, impersonator, dancer or martial art exponent, Valhalla Open Mic allows artistes to showcase their abilities in a relaxed atmosphere. We've created a platform for artistic expression especially for new talents.

VALHALLA FUNKEE RETAIL MARKETS

To add a little more fun, there is groovee merchandise for sale at our market stalls section. Artistes who'd like to promote their self-produced CDs etc can display their wares here. Valhalla's Funkee Retail Markets sell tee-shirts, bracelets, pendants, koool underwear and bikinis. Stalls are available for weekly hire at only RM20 per night.

On that note, we invite you to join us at Liquid’s newly refurbished chill-out lounge at Central Market every Thursday Valhalla night from 9pm-2am. DJ Beryl entertains with groove, acid jazz, fusion & retro tunes. NO COVER. Happy Hour is 5.00-9.00pm. Liquid Bar stays open til late late!!
