Powers: Antaeus possesses superhuman strength that increases each time he touches the ground. If Antaeus is separated from contact with solid ground his strength will quickly diminish.

History: (Batman and the Outsiders #14, 15)-Antaeus’ origins are unknown, but he was probably given his power by the Monitor. Antaeus was a member of the New Olympians, henchmen of the Monitor lent out to madman Maxie Zeus in order to kidnap Olympic athlete Lacinia Nitocris. The New Olympians were opposed by the Outsiders, and the two teams faced off in Olympic games to determine a victor. Antaeus was pitted against Geo-Force in wrestling, and the fight was in Antaeus’ favor until Geo-Force levitated him into the air, depriving him of his strength.

The Antaeus of myth was the son of Poseidon and a giant who slew travelers passing through his realm. He was killed by Hercules, who lifted him off the ground, depriving him of his great strength.
