WELCOME to the VREDINGBURGH FAMILY TREE SITE

OUR HERITAGE IS LIBERTY, IT WAS BROUGHT HERE NOT ONLY BY THE PILGRIMS BUT ALSO BY COURAGEOUS MEN AND WOMEN FROM THE BRITISH ISLES, THE VINE CLAD HILLS OF FRANCE AND THE PALATINE OF GERMANY, WHO CRAVED ABOVE ALL THINGS OF EARTH, THE ECONOMIC FREEDOM AND THE RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DENIED TO THEM BY TYRANNICAL RULERS OF THE OLD WORLD.  - Pittsburgh Press, George Swetnam's Column

Bridenstine    In the Early 1700s our German ancestors first settled in the Piedmont Plateau region of Pennsylvania. The name Bridenstine has been changed from the original German spelling of Breidenstein or Breitenstein, however in the earliest records of the family in Pennsylvania the original spelling was retained. In later years some of the families changed the name to Broadstone and then later to Bridenstine. - Don W. Bridenstine, '89

Helsel    The Heltzels came to America from Germany in the 1700s to Pennsylvania settlements in the counties of Bedford and York, and later in Cambria County before moving to the western frontier.

Stump    Research shows that many migrated from the Palatinate area of Germany to England as early as the 16th Century (1500 A.D.) and that one, Josiah Stumpf was once elected Lord Mayor of London. The Stumps migrated to America in the early part of the 18th Century (1700s). Records from the Daughters of American Revolution reveal many changed surnames from: Stumpf, Stumpff, Stumpe, Stumph and Stamp to STUMP. However some, if not all of these spellings are still in use throughout the U.S. -David S. Stump

Vredingburgh    The spelling isn't always the same. Fradenburgs, Fredenburghs, Vradenburgs, Vredenburghs stem from the same early New York line. We have done laundry in the river on Wall Street, pastored in N.J., farmed, sold, taught, railroaded, speculated and have lived almost everywhere. Vredenburghs aren't noted for sinking deep roots nor are we known for great accomplishments. Just good guys. - Patricia Vredenburg Fairbanks, '91. The Photo Gallery, by Christopher Lyttle.
