Alpheus Wickware was born 12 Sep 1822 Logan Co., KY to Elisha and
Sallie (Cusenbary) Wickware. He was the second of five children. Alpheus
is listed in "Genealogy of the Wickware Family" by Arthur Manley
Wickware. The exact date is also listed in the Wickware family
Bible owned by Cora Selinda (Wickware) Bookout, now in my possession.

A. Wickware Davidson. D. Robinson and E. Cushenberry are guardians of
the Wickware children. Filed 4 Oct 1838.
In 1840, where was Alpheus? Based on the above he could have been
living with Elijah Cusenbary or Dudley Robinson. Dudley showed 1
male born 1830-1835, 1 male 1820-1825 in addition to himself and his
wife and a female born 1750-1760. Elijah Cusenbary was living in Simpson
County, KY, but I do not have that census yet.
Alpheus married Martha Eve Hughes, daughter of Rowland and Flora (Lowe)
Hughes, on 13 December 1843 in Logan County. [Logan County Marriage
Records]
Their first son, James Vincent, was born October 8, 1844 in Logan County,
and on September 14, 1846, Elijah W. was born, followed by Mary
Susan on 9 September 1849.
Alpheus and Martha still lived in Logan County in 1850, with their
three children.

Alpheus and Martha's fourth child was born on May 24, 1853 in Logan County,
Rowland R. and their second daughter, Gemima was born on Christmas Day on
December 25, 1859.
The Wickwares should still be living in Kentucky until after 1864 when their
last child was born. I have been unable to find them in the 1860, but we
know that their son William was born in 1862 and daughter Magnolia
in 1864, both in Kentucky.
By 1870, the Wickwares had moved to Washington County, Arkansas, Elm Springs
Township.

By 1883, A. Wickmore and E. Wickmore paid property taxes in Washington
County, Arkansas [Book #55], page 165, 171.
In 1888, Alpheus and Martha became members of the Shady Grove Baptist
Church, Washington Co., AR. They were dismissed in 1888 to help organize
the Stoney Point Baptist Church in Stoney Point, Washington Co., just
west of Johnson.
1892-1894 - A plat map of the Elm Springs Township was made from 1892 to
1894. At that time, Alpheus was shown owning land in Section 21, next
to his son, Elijah.
The Wickware Bible says Alpheus died July 22, 1886. He is buried in Benton
County, Arkansas in Pleasant Grove cemetery. By the fact that his death
date is in the same handwriting as the rest of the family names,
one would guess that Martha outlived Alpheus. Also, her death date is
not listed in the Bible. I have found no burial place for her, but it's
possible she is buried beside him.
