Death was sudden and unexpected. Frank Chatman, age 26, died at his home at Dry Creek of dropsy, morning of December 12, 1902. Brother of Mrs. J. F. Smelser Burr and Mrs. S. J. Malcom of Piedmont, MO. (Submitter's note:Is J. F. Smelser the one listed next -- probably?) Mrs. Mary Jane Smelser, wife of John F. Smelser, Burr, MO. died last Thursday at 12:30 p.m (1905). Funeral is Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Johnston Chapel, Rev. Rutledge officiating. Buried there. Maiden name was Chatman, b Dunklin Co., MO Aug 28, 1868. Married 16 Aug 1888. Had 6 children. Husband and 2 children survive. Methodist Sarah Rebecca Smelser born Randolph Co., AR on 25 Nov 1849. Died at home near Pocahontas, AR 30 Aug 1903. Married to Jasper M. Smelser in 1869. Had 7 children. Husband and 5 children survive. Buried at Gatewood, MO on 31 Aug 1903. John F. Smelser received telegram last Tuesday from S. J. Malcom, Piedmont, MO death of 2 month old girl. 19 Oct 1905 Mrs. Bettie Atkinson, wife of J. W. Atkinson, died at her home near Bennett last Friday, 15 March 1907 at 6 a.m. of childbirth. Sister to F. E. Smelser, Doniphan, MO; Mrs. W.W. Rose, Gatewood, MO; and Mrs. Joe Tyson of Ponder, MO. Leaves 3 boys, ages 4, 2 and infant. (Submitter note:I believe this Bettie is Elizabeth W. daughter of P. W. Smelser and Elizabeth O'Neal. Her brother F. E. would be Franklin Elijah m Vergie Taylor. Mrs. W. Rose would be Martha E. who m William Rose on 5 Sept 1880. She is buried in the Atkinson plot in Chestnut Cemetery in Ripley Co., MO. Does anyone know who Mrs. Joe Tyson would be?)
