Welcome

I was introduced to MAME in May of '97.  As an emulation fanatic for a very long time, I would run Apple IIe, CP/M, and Trash80  progys on my 486.  While hunting a Emu for an Atari 2600, I came across MAME 0.2 and a Ms. Pac-Man rom.  I was hooked.  I have been collecting roms ever since.  In November of 2000 I ran across the  Build your own Arcade controls FAQ, all the ideas all the possibilities, I needed a piece of the action.  The X-treme M.A.M.E. web site, dedicated to the recreation of the arcade experience.  The goal of this project is to recondition a full upright arcade cabinet, with a computer running M.A.M.E. and ArcadeOS.  Single player controls /w trackball. Stay tuned as this project unfolds.

History

FINISHED Mar. 29, 2001

Well for a little while anyway.  This project will never be fully completed, there will always be something (advancements in mame, new hardware to put in, ect).  I have had lots of fun doing this and believe it will bring even more fun to my family and friends.  Many thanks to everyone who lent a hand or ideas, you guys were a big help.

Updates Mar. 26, 2001
The bezel is done, I had it covered in black marble contact paper, (since it was white) to match the control panel.  I have the side art that I want, but I am going to wait to print it off, for the time being.
Mar. 19, 2001
OK, I found material for the monitor bezel.  Many thanks to Ballgoof, he had a piece of laminate laying around collecting dust,  he even gave a hand cutting it to fit.  Thanks Dude.

Have several updates done on the machine this week, first off.  Installed a second harddrive (2Gig),  mame37b13k6 (AMD optimized), NEOmame37b13k6 (AMD optimized), several NeoGeo roms, a new front-end GameLauncher, and ZSNES and about 500 SuperNES roms.  I chose GameLauncher because the interface was simpler than ArcadeOS, though this isn't a problem for me it was a problem for some.  Also since i am not using an Arcade Monitor, ArcadeOS is not needed.  ZSNES integrates into GameLauncher.

The fresnel lens showed up yesterday night.  I will tell you, I am impressed with this Lens.  It gives a really nice effect, it gives the effect that there is a 21in monitor at two feet away.  Really really neat.  Only a few more things to do, I need to make a new monitor bezel, and print the side art and this project will be finished.

The Control Panel is finally finished, pics of it soon.  Also taking a break to work on my personal computer, so maybe I'll have those pictures up tomorrow.
Mar. 5, 2001
After working all weekend on the computer that is upgrading the old one, it is finished.  I also wired the plunger lights on the coin door, removed all the harnesses that are not needed, setup the coin acceptor switches.

I ordered a 25in fresnel lens today.

Update a guy from Express Enterprises called me to tell me that they were out of 25in lens, and offered a deal for a 22in.

I have decided to try an experiment, I am going to buy a Fresnel Lens from here.  Only $45usd for a 25in diagonal, I'll let you know.
Feb. 23, 2001
I received My I-PAC yesterday and set everything up ( Thanks Andy ).  Man, I tell you what, 30 min and I was up and running.  This product is well worth it.  The first test went flawlessly.
Feb. 19, 2001
I have received the parts for my new computer (T-bird 900 w/ Abit KT7A-RAID)  so with natural progression my wife gets my old one (PIII 550 w/ Abit BX6 rev. 2) and her old one (K6-2 300@400 w/ Intel TX) goes in the MAME cabinet.  Say goodbye to that POS Compaq. LOL

The madness startsJan. 8, 2001

Planning for this project has been underway for a week now.

I have a lot of ideas, but my basic plan is this:

 What is my goal?

My goal is to have a full sized upright single player M.A.M.E.

Cabinet.

Build or Buy?

My first plan was to build, but maybe able to acquired a cabinet from a local

Arcade service company.

Controls

Single player controls:  one eight-way stick, six control buttons, 4” trackball

If all goes well a hidden drawer for full-sized keyboard and mouse.

Software

            Currently Mame37b10, ArcadeOS

Interface

.

Keyboard hack, homemade automatic dual-keyboard switch, serial port

for trackball.
