The CYPRESS CREEK Band
A Lot of Old Time Rock 'N' Roll
|
History of the CCB
Formed in the fall of 1991, The Cypress Creek Band,
named for an Eastern Arkansas recording studio, is a
unique blend of musicians from a wide range of musical
styles and backgrounds. Five business and government
officials have come together in a group to produce some
of the most fun and danceable party music in the Mid-South
area.
The present lineup of the band has been together
since 1997. Jay Hughes (bass and lead vocals), Matthew
Kelley (keyboards and vocals), John West (guitar and vocals),
Craig Jones (guitar and lead vocals), and Ben Story (drums
and lead vocals) are five classic rock 'n roll afficionadoes
who will not let the timeless classics of the 50's, 60's, and
70's be put in the closet.
In 1995 the band had the privilege of being
the opening act for rockabilly legend Ronnie Hawkins and
his band, the Hawks. Ronnie Hawkins and the original Hawks
played all over Arkansas before moving to Canada in the
early '60s. The original Hawks later moved to New York,
backed up Bob Dylan, and became THE BAND.
The highlight of the band's career occurred in October,
1997, when it had the distinct privilege of backing up
music legend Levon Helm (of THE BAND) during a performance
for Levon's homecoming celebration in Marvell, Arkansas.
Levon was an original member of the Hawks. THE BAND is
a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Levon asked Cypress
Creek to play with him for his homecoming celebration. Since that
date, Cypress Creek has played for every Marvell homecoming
celebration which is held in October of each year.

rock 'n roll you grew upon, check out The Cypress Creek
