The Stones In, On, and About Memphis (and Its Music)

Q: Which was the first music that Stones have mentioned an American city or State in a song?
A: Memphis----Saturday Club 10/26/63
Keith on Elvis 1998: "I would have loved to have worked with Elvis, on the right day. As long as he got out of that costume."
Keith on Southern cooking: "I just sling that hash on the stage..."
Keith speaks Hillbilly (AOL interview 1998): (Where are all the vintage master tapes?) "Hidden in silos, bubba."
Mick on Elvis 1998: "I wish I could have seen Elvis perform live."
Bill on early influences: "I heard my first rock and roll in 1955. Suddenly I was listening to Elvis, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, and that's when I really wanted to do it."
Ron: "The first gig I did with a famous person was Memphis Slim. My group had to back him up and we got a bottle of whiskey as payment."
Charlie on Elvis: "Fats Domino was the only performer of rock and roll that I ever loved as a kid. I never liked Elvis or any of that."
Keith, on being asked what cover song he would like to do: "I would love to do 'Chained and Bound' by Otis Redding."
Keith: "Nobody lasted more than two years in the early 60s. It didn't matter how big you were, unless you were Elvis, you were supposed to disappear at the height of your career."
Ron: "The first two singles I ever bought were Jerry Lee Lewis's 'Great Balls of Fire' and Fats Domino's 'I'm Walkin'."
Mick: "On the Everly Brothers tour we were almost bottom of the bill and we only played two numbers, so we'd play our records 'Come On' and one other, like 'Memphis Tennessee' that they knew, and that was it."
Keith:"Can't even describe what America meant to us. We first started listening to Otis when we got to the States and picked up our first Stax singles. And Wilson Pickett. That's what's so amazing about Bobby Keys, that cat, man, he was there from the beginning."
Mick: "Elvis Presley was a big influence on everybody. He was like the archetypal rock star, standing there with his guitar."
