6. Course Description: This course is designed to provide training in the touch
operation of the alphabetic and numeric keyboards. Basic skill development
through drills for speed and accuracy control, centering, tabulation and for-
matting of basic business documents is included. The course provides basic
skills necessary to operate computer terminals and information processors.

II. COURSE PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
1. Key the alphabetic keys by touch.
2. Key using proper techniques
3. Key at the rate of 14 gwam or more.
4. Key the numeric keys by touch.
5. Master selected symbol keys.
6. Develop a relaxed, confident attitude.
7. Apply correct number expression.
8. Improve speed and accuracy
9. Key from rough-draft copy.
10.Key a 3' writing at 25 wam or higher.
11.Enter, save, open, and print a document.
12. Learn simple format commands.
13.Improve speed and accuracy.
14.Learn block and modified block letter formats.
15.Learn standard memorandum format.
16.Change the format of existing documents.
17.Improve speed and accuracy.
18.Format two-page unbound and Leftbound reports.
19.Format long references and title pages.
20.Learn additional word processing functions.
21.Change the format of existing documents.
22.Improve speed and accuracy.
23.Create tables using the Table function.

III. COURSE ORGANIZATION:
1. Classroom situation is in a Lab Setting with instructor circulating around room to assist students. Each students will have a computer.
Software:MICROSOFT WORD 2000, Keyboarding Pro, and
Micropace Pro.
2. Students will receive Study Guides for each unit of study with a time-frame for turning in homework. Students will be allowed to progress at their own rate within the specified time-frame.
3. Timed Writings will be given as needed.
IV. EVALUATION OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:
1. HANDS-ON achievement tests and timing tests will be given at checkpoints.
A written test will be given at Mid-term.
2. Timing Tests : 100 points
3. Unit Work: 50 points each
4. Final Exam: 200 points--Hands On (25% of Total Grade)
5. Grading Scale:
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D

VI. OTHER INFORMATION:
1. Attendance: Students are expected to attend this class regularly in order to satisfactorily complete the course.
2. Makeup Test Policy: No makeup tests will be given unless you have extenuating circumstances which would make you have to miss a test. Contact your instructor ahead of time, and you will be expected to take the test on your first day back. If you do not take the test then, you will receive a 0 for the test. Do not miss a test without contacting your Instructor first.
3. Late Assignments: Any assignments turned in late --will be assessed a 10% penalty.
