Week 1 against Hoxie

In the first game of the 99' season,it was your Corning Bobcats who came out with all the firepower.Senior fullback Guy Williams started the season out with a bang running the opening kick-off of his last season as a Bobcat back 90 yards for the first bobcat touchdown of the season. The momentum seemed to shift over the rest of the game, though,as the Hoxie Mustangs took home a 26-7 victory.

The Cats has some success early moving the ball, but the mustangs soon began shutting down the offense and put the ball into the hands of their leading scorer of the night;Senior running back Jason Price.Price accumulated 24 of the 26 mustang points and looked very impressive running the ball in his first performace of the season.

Although Price and his offensive line shined most of the game,it was turnovers that kept the Bobcats out of this contest. They were able to drive the ball somewhat on the Hoxie defense at times, but couldnt convert in the red-zone well, losing the ball twice inside the mustang 20 yard line. "We all made made more mistakes than we can count,"said first year Bobcat head coach Mark Smith. "What is important is that we fix them and get ready for Salem."

Corning will invade Salem this Friday for a showdown against a Greyhound team that also lost their season opener in a smashing 33-7 loss to the Highland Rebels.Corning won the contest last season between the two after battling back from a 14 point deficit.Emotions will be flying high as the Greyhounds look for revenge and the Bobcats look for their first victory of the season. They'll be fightin' like cats and dogs out there,so please dont miss any of the action! Kickoff is set for 7:30 at Greyhound Stadium.
