THE DOMINATOR IS BACK IN HOCKEYTOWN! |
Yes, that statement is true. Dominik Hasek, goaltender for the 2001-2002 stanley cup winning red wings has confirmed his re-joining of the Detroit red wings hockey orgainization. Hasek, returning from a somewhat breif one-year retirement, officalized his returning to the NHL on July 8,2003 in a conference call with red wing's GM ken holland. Hasek stated: “I m here to announce my return to hockey. I have had a break from goaltending this past year. I was able to spend more time with my family and enjoy some of my hobbies that I didn’t have time for as a player. I now feel that I have achieved a better balance in my life and I have more to contribute to the game. My batteries are recharged and I have the fire for competing for the Cup again. I had a meeting with (Red Wings head coach) Dave Lewis in Vienna on June 17 and I communicated my decision to return. The Red Wings wanted to give me more time to reflect on my decision and to make sure that I was certain about it. (Red Wings general manager) Ken Holland then spoke to me last week when I was on vacation and I again confirmed with him that I would be returning. I’m really looking forward to getting on the ice again with my teammates.”(courtesy-detroitredwings.com, visit for full interview.)
