39-year-old former Nova, former GABA teacher just hopes Berlitz interviewer doesn't ask the "How do you see yourself in 5 years?" question

TOKYO, Japan (GTA) -- Following a one year tumultuous stint at Gaba, 39-year old teacher Jason Simmons has moved on to secure what appears to be a very promising group interview at Berlitz headquarters next Wednesday.

"I guess you could say I left for 'philosophical reasons.' Hey, no hard feelings. This is not the first time Simmons-Sensei has not seen eye-to-eye with corporate Eikaiwa," Simmons explained.

"Just keep in mind. When someone pushes the Simmster, Simms pushes back. I know my black suit coat is still in the break room. If Randy or someone even touches my black coat at the lesson studio before I pick it up...well, people who know me know that I will raise some serious hell."

Simmons is quite confident concerning his upcoming interview.

"Things are looking pretty good cause I got some connections in Berlitz. Plus this is like my 20th interview at an English school. I'm pretty god damned awesome at job interviews at this point in my life."

"Like if they say, 'Do you find teaching English to be easy." I totally steer clear of that land mine and launch into my rap on how teaching English is always a challenge...blah, blah, blaah...But it's a challenge that I enjoy...blah, blaaagh...because each day brings something new and exciting to me as a teacher."

"That pretty much got me into GABA in 2005."

"The only question that I hope they don't toss at me is the 'How do you see yourself in 5-years?' I'm having trouble coming up with something for that. I'll probably say something like, 'Well actually, I'm looking for an opportunity to grow with a company. Blah, blah, blah. In the past, I've had experience in large English schools that didn't necessarily offer...blah, blah, blah. So hopefully, with Berlitz...blah, blah...find what I'm looking for.' That answer also kills the �eWhy did you leave your last job?�f question plus it sort of puts the interviewer in the position where he might explain some of the possibilities at Berlitz."

Simmons added confidently, "From that point, all Jason Simmons needs to do is put on his ambitious face to show he means business, baby."

Yet, Simmons still struggles with what he calls the "steady disintegration of his very soul."

"The problem is I feel so dirty afterwards. Like I need breath mints really badly, you know. Part of the problem is that I'm getting interviewed by a lame trainer. It's kind of like having an assistant manager of McDonald's ask you about instances where you have been shown ambition in your life.�h

"Now that I think about it. I think interviewing for jobs at English schools is one of the things I'm really good at. Too bad I can't put it down on my resume. Anyway, my resume is a killer no matter what. Ten years of teaching experience, plus a couple years in the retail industry. I�fm not getting too cocky or anything, but it�fs a safe bet that the Simmons-sensei express is headed to the big Berlitz factory."
